Guess that’s not appropriate for family dinners.

“Let’s clean you up real quick. Don’t worry, I’ll make sure nothing stains your white lace dress.”

“You better,” I huff, but I genuinely don’t want it to get dirty because I absolutely love it. “You know I’ve had this dress for six years?”

“Six?” he looks intrigued, even as he’s helping clean me up now that I’m resting on the counter.

Waiting for my legs to not be so jelly.

“Mhmm. Six.”

“What took you so long to wear it?” His curiosity makes me smile. At my prolonged silence, he glances up at me with those hazelnut chocolate eyes of his.

“To be honest, I don’t know,” I whisper. “I do remember you commented on this very dress.”

It’s his turn to look deep in thought while he attempts to recall what I’m referring to.

“My mind is still sluggish as hell,” he confesses, which makes me giggle.

“Powder room sex was that good, huh?”

“Extraordinary,” he admits as he finishes up and stands between my legs. He leans in until we’re barely kissing. “Tell me.”

“And not make you suffer wondering where I got this dress from? Tempting,” I tease but end up fixing a few locks of his black hair. “The crew was going to a party. A business one, but Mikayla wanted to get a new dress since she didn’t have anything for the event. It was a white formal party, so the dress had to obviously be white. I found this one but didn’t think I’d look nice in it. Of course, Winchester was around and mocked, saying my arms were too muscled to look nice in a lace dress like this.”

“Of course, he did,” he grumbles annoyingly. “You still bought it, though.”

“I did,” I admit. “Since you said the color would make my eyes shine brightly.”

“Your eyes,” he whispers and cups my cheek with his right hand before kissing me soothingly. “It does bring out your eyes,” he compliments, then quietly whispers, “But I should have told you how mesmerizing you would look wearing this dress with all your gains.”

The way I smile has his own lips lifting up in approval.

“I wish I said that back then.”

“Funny thing is,” I begin and seal his lips with mine until we’re sharing a soul-searching kiss. “You did say that.”

“I did?”

“You did,” I assure him and wrap my arms around his neck so I can give him a tight hug. “You didn’t change as much as you thought you had.”

“Not sure about that one,” he chuckles and hugs me back. “I’m more of a tolerable douche now.”

I laugh at that.

“You were an annoying douche back then,” I admit. “But you did show me glimpses of the real you.” Leaning back, I kiss the top of his nose. “I appreciated those moments, especially now that I know all you did to keep me safe.”

“I’m sorry I couldn’t do more,” he confesses. “I should have been bolder and not so infatuated with loving a man I knew wouldn’t love me in return.”

“We live, and we learn, right?” I offer and press my hands against his cheeks. “Are you going to confront Jayce anytime soon? I know he was bailed out until the trial. That’s what they said on the radio, right?”

“Yeah. Though they’re speculating they’re going to arrest his dad first and then him on separate charges for which they won’t give him bail,” Armani admits and quietly adds, “I think Fernandez bailed him out.”

“Why?” I don’t get that logic. “I thought he wants Winchester’s demise.”

“He does.” There’s no doubt in Armani’s eyes as he grips my waist and helps me off the counter. Making sure my dress is presentable before looking into the mirror to ensure he looks appropriate, he takes my hand.

“Then?”
