Wait… what?

“Childhood friend?” Armani questions as he looks between the two of them. The older taller man nods in agreement.

“Wyatt’s known Sofiya since she was born.”

No way.

No fucking way.

“Y-You’re saying she’s her?” I whisper, sounding out of breath. “The shooting…”

“Childhood friend?” Xandra looks even more confused.Irritated even.“I think I’d remember that. My childhood friend is Mikayla.”

“That was later on, Kenzie,” Armani eases and draws her attention to him. “Why don’t we recap things later when you’re better rested.”

She doesn’t look pleased by that.

“I don’t know him,” she emphasizes, almost angrily. “Why is he here?”

“Xandra.”

She looks at me, and fuck. I fight off the flinch that ignites from her glare.

“Xandra? See? That’s not my name.”

“Xandra, hold on,” I’m pleading with her. “Your name is Alexandra Mackenzie Andrews. This was before you recently changed it. I call you Xandra.”

Her anger only excels.

“My name is Sofiya Androsov. Kenzie Andrews is my English name,” she emphasizes as if I’d insulted her by getting her name wrong. “Kenzie is my nickname. Armani calls me Andrews, too. My friends call me Mack… for some reason. Probably ‘cause I like Mac and Cheese. Either way, no one calls me Xandra.”

Shit…

It’s dawning on me now.

She doesn’t remember me.

“Sofiya.” Her eyes look at the older man. “You really don’t remember this man?”

“I don’t remember him, Papa,” she declares and looks at the woman. “Mom? Why are you crying again?”

“Ah… I’m just concerned for you, dear,” her mother admits. “You should remember, Wyatt. He’s important to you.”

“If he was important to me, I think I’d remember him.” She looks back at me and takes a longer look at me.

I hold my breath, hoping this will be some sort of nightmare, but when our eyes meet, I see it.

No fucking emotional connection on her end.

“I don’t know this stranger,” she declares and looks away.

Fuck…

“Why don’t we call the doctor to do an assessment?” Armani suggests, but Kenzie huffs.

“You don’t believe me.”

“Kenzie.”
