The big mansions.
The various hockey games and screaming fans muted by my pink, sparkly headphones.
“Sofiya, my sweet. Come here to Mama.”
“Sofiya dear, remember in English, you are Kenzie Andrews for when we go to America.”
“Sofiya, Daddy must do something important. Stay in your room until I get you, alright, my dear?”
“Sofiya, you’re a very important princess, and one day, you’ll rule a beautiful kingdom where Mommy and Daddy will support you.”
“Sofiya, your prince is coming over to see you.”
“Sofiya, you always stay close to the men in black, yes?”
“Sofiya, blow out the candles,”
“Sofiya, walk to Mommy.”
“Sofiya, our precious daughter.”
“Sofiya. That shall be her hidden name.”
“Sofiya.”
The timeline goes backward until all I can remember is that single name that’s on repeat.
Sofiya.
Sofiya.
Sofiya…
That’s who I am.
My world is greeted with darkness.
SOMETHING IS WRONG
~MACKENZIE~
“Meow.”
“Oscar. Did you seriously sneak your cat into the hospital?”
“I didn’t sneak Mittens in,” the husky grumble keeps me from falling back asleep for the millionth time. “She snuck into the bag I brought with Kenzie’s stuff.”
There’s a sigh.
“How is she?”
“Still unconscious. Doc said her vitals are stable. They finished all the various brain scans. She does have a concussion which isn’t from the drop through the ice. It’s obviously blunt force, only confirming the attack Fernandez pulled.”
“Fuck…”
“The Doc assured us that she should make a full recovery. We brought her in on time to stop the drug injected into her from causing permanent damage. She’ll be able to walk and run just fine after some rest, but it was a really close call, Wyatt.”
“She didn’t call me. Why didn’t she think of reaching out to me? I could have gotten there in no time. We were so busy with the cleanup, and if you hadn’t gotten to us and drove us over to Harvey’s place… who fucking knows?”
