She crosses her arms and looks me in the eye.
“Frankie, Andrews. Frankie Fernandez is my lovely stalker ex who ditched me the moment he hit big with his business initiative and moved to Toronto in hopes of making it big.”
“No way,” I whisper. “Shit. That means what Mitchel was saying. He was talking about Frankie wanting to get back with you!”
“In his fucking dreams.” She rolls her eyes. “He needs money, and unlike him, who spent it all on drugs, women, and sex clubs, I’ve saved every dollar I’ve made from doing what I do.”
She moves around me to lock the door, as if to ensure no one comes in unexpectedly.
“He’s tried to contact me in various ways. Stalked me plenty until I joined the FBI, which means he can’t tap into my phone or lay a tracker in it, but since the police couldn’t serve a restraining order against him, he can still be in the same area as me,” she reveals. “It’s why Leo is always nearby. He’s basically my bodyguard.”
“A bodyguard,” I whisper. “So, he can step in and protect you if Frankie tries to make a move against you.”
“Mhmm.” She bobs her head. “Though there are plenty of ways of killing a cat. With what Mitchel was saying earlier, he may get desperate to hurt me. I’m more concerned about you, though.”
“Me?” I don’t get it. “What do I have to do with it?”
“It’s what Mitchel said that is rumored about the girl Frankie previously dated, which is you. Saying you’re from a rich family.”
“I’m not,” I laugh. “I’m an orphan. My greedy aunt, who’s now chilling in jail waiting for trial, is the one who raised me.”
“Kidnapped you.”
Come what now?
I stare at her in confusion while she pinches her nose.
“Please don’t tell Oliver I told you this. He’s working on the investigation with the police and may have to involve the FBI because this may become an international scale problem.”
“How so?” I don’t understand.
“Oliver discovered your birth certificate from the recent raid of your aunt’s place. It’s actually the reason why she’s now in jail with no chance of bail or parole.”
“My birth certificate. I was born here in Strattonville. I have my own birth certificate. That has to be a copy or cover-up,” I argue.
“Nope. Yours is the fake one, which I’m rather thankful you’ve never needed to use, or you would have been charged with faking your identity.”
“Faking my identity?” I gasp. “But my name is Alexandra Mackenzie Andrews. Well, before I changed my name.”
“Your birth name is actually Kenzie Sofiya Andrews. You were born in Moscow but went missing. We’re looking into your family and if any relations are alive right now, but all fingers are pointing to Beverley being the kidnapper.”
“But…” I’m not sure what I can say.
What do you say when you find out you’re not an orphan but that your aunt kidnapped you?
“I know it’s a lot, and I didn’t want to share it tonight, but I feel in my gut that being honest with you here and now will be more beneficial than bringing this up at the end of the season.”
“It doesn’t explain why Frankie wants me back,” I emphasize.
“If he knows your identity, chances are, he knows whatever lineage is waiting for you to claim. However, I personally don’t think that’s the case.”
“What do you think?” It’s my turn to cross my arms as I look into her eyes. “You’ve known Frankie the longest. What do you think he’s after in trying to get to either of us?”
“Money is an obvious factor. However, I think he wants to fuck me over because I wouldn’t take him back. He reached out to me when he found out I was a team nurse with the Saskatchewan Pincers. I blocked him from any social media access and got Wyatt to ensure he was unable to tap my internship phone. I’m confident I’ll be alright since Leo’s assigned to protect me, but I’m worried about you,” she confesses. “As to why he wants you, I believe it’s payback against Wyatt.”
“Against Wyatt. Since they used to be best friends, and there’s tension between them?”
“That and maybe because you were with Wyatt previously. I honestly think that may have been why he sought out to date you. Obviously, he wasn’t committed. He was fucking everyone under the sun when you guys were together, right?”
