Even this week, while I aided the team with their fitness regimen, I took videos and photos to further prove their seriousness in making this opportunity into a long-term career path. After observing them myself, I was getting further impressed by their brute potential.

Especially with Winchester not around.

He’d been gone the last few days because of a ‘golden’ opportunity in Saskatchewan that he couldn’t dare miss for the sake of practicing for our first game.

Another selfish move in my eyes—and the eyes of social media spectators who were stalking our every move—but the break had only made a new path for Oscar and even Wyatt to step onto the plate and assist the team with their drills and so forth.

We were down a team member, which invited Wyatt to join in the practice games so both teams would have an equal footing.

Fraser made the decision to quit the team over the weekend.

Oscar had mentioned overhearing him crying about his family being in debt due to this hockey initiative and supporting Fraser’s dreams of doing hockey professionally.

A part of me felt pity for him and made me wish we could have sped the process of presenting enough proof that the team deserves a higher advance payout, but then I looked at this from a realistic perspective.

He dropped out, knowing the first game was a few short days away, meaning he didn’t care about the team’s success or downfall, but was in this for the financial gain and promised stability, which didn’t come to his timely aid.

Oscar explained that my analysis was exactly why Fraser lost out on a $250,000 check that was written out by Mr. Champion after Oscar took the initiative to let him know what he overheard.

Proves that the Universe can give you the blessings you’ve been praying for, only for you to fuck up and let them dwindle away.

Despite Fraser quitting, everyone else seemed to still be on board and liking the fitness and stretching programs I created.

It wasn’t necessarily my job, especially with PT having their own intern, but I wanted to aid the team with their performance by ensuring they were physically fit in all aspects while continuing to do my part in assessing their health.

It was easier to ensure they were healthy, thanks to Kathy’s help. Despite her having to play ‘evil bitch’ up front, behind the scenes, she’s been helping me any way she can to make things a bit easier to manage. Once she overheard that I was assisting with the fitness and wellness plans, she didn’t hesitate to offer any type of aid, which I really appreciated.

Despite the madness, I was genuinely enjoying the internship now that I was getting into my role.

Dr. Francisco wasn’t as scary as I thought he’d be, either. It was clear he was hoping for some sort of promotion or to excel on an already established hockey team, but he drills us in a way that makes us see what we’re capable of.

I can respect that.

“Mitchel, Diesel, Kane, and Armani’s plans are set to review, and I made sure Wyatt secured the lockers with a mini fridge where I can put the IV doses and Gatorade cocktails needed for tomorrow’s game. If I can just get this stack of duties out of the way, I can finish by noon and have everything ready for tomorrow’s game before the evening. I should finalize the initial care plans for the internship portion, too.”

I’m totally talking to myself as I run my hands through my blonde locks that have grown out thanks to this new hair-growing serum I’ve been using. Kathy suggested it after I’d mentioned wanting to grow my hair out or get extensions for this fundraiser ball.

It’s still far away and our attendance is determined by how close we get to the final round, but I’m pretty confident, we can do well as a team.

I want to be prepared for the event, just in case.

And look extra hot.

The buzz of my stadium work phone catches my attention, but the specific ringtone tells me it’s my ‘lovely’ aunt.

Since the start of the internship, I’d been flat out ignoring her. She’d been doing her best to reach me, which was laughable seeing as I wasn’t important during my studies in Toronto unless there was a chance I got a scholarship or grant.

The final papers regarding my name change came last night, which may be why she was calling me, knowing I’m ‘working.’

Probably got a friendly phone call from her connections at the bank that I came in to close my accounts.

The ringing ends, only to start back up again three more times.

It’s enough of a distraction that I’m reaching over to pick up the device.

My eyes are still scanning the web of papers and screens that are giving me plentiful information to weave together into the perfect binder of summaries. Not only would it emphasize how perfectly shaped the Pincers are medically, but proving their perseverance with physical training and commitment can further emphasize their excellence to any sports professional who reviews it.

I’m gonna earn them those advances.
