“Has to be,” Mikayla comments.
“They’ve always been like that,” Maddox admits. “Are we done being emotional? We got a game to prep for.”
“Vipers,” Coach Cyrus calls down to them. “Get cleaned up. Lunch on me.”
“YES!” The team cheers ecstatically before taking their rounds to give Maddox and Damien hugs.
“C’mon, guys. You don’t all need to give me and Damien hugs. Go hug Ace and Wolfgang,” Maddox tries to get out of more bear embraces.
“We were just moral support,” Wolfgang argues. “It was all Damien and Maddox.”
“That’s true,” Ace agrees. “Damien was talking business logistics, and Maddox was the backbone with all his confidence. He had some of those executives shaking. It’s like they feared saying no to him.”
“Now you’re just exaggerating,” Maddox announces making his way to stand next to Mikayla. “Nurse Johnson, I need your expertise on something.”
Expertise my ass.
Lucky fucker.
I’m jealous, but then again, he earned whatever private time he wants with his woman.
“Huh?” she replies. “What’s up?”
“Not here,” he encourages with a nudge to his head to the side. “Outside.”
“Coach Johnson. O’Riley’s trying to hit on your daughter,” Mitchel calls out. Royce and Axel punch him for calling the lovers out.
“Stop tattling, dummy,” Marcus huffs.
“You wouldn’t say shit if Jayce was trying to hit on her,” Knox grunts.
“Wait, that’s the new way of hitting on a girl?” Clayton asks.
“Sometimes I question your game, Clay,” Ethan quietly mutters, which has a few of their teammates laughing.
“Nurse Johnson can do whatever she wants,” Coach Johnson calls out.
That has our attention as we look up at our coach with his stern expression that screams ‘we’re in for some suffering.’
“Last time I checked, she’s a Viper, Mitchel. Now, I’ll see all of you outside in three minutes on the track, or else you’re benched.”
“Shit,” Mitchel curses and runs over to hug his brother. “You guys better kill it tonight at your game! Good luck and invite me to celebrate!” Then he’s between Mack and Wyatt, his arms hooking around theirs.
“Wait. Where are we going?” Kenzie questions in obvious confusion. It’s the first time Mitchel has been really friendly with her.
I don’t like that.
Makes me want to punch his guts for even touching her.
“You guys are Pincers, remember?” Mitchel reminds them and is already pulling them forward.
“I’m the equipment manager,” Wyatt points out as if we’ve all forgotten.
“Yeah, but deep down, you’re a Pincer because Nurse Mack is a Pincer, and you’ll just find something to do outside so you can keep an eye on her,” Mitchel reveals.
“I-I do not!” Wyatt argues.
“Yeah, right,” Mitchel laughs. “Remember the time when Nurse Mack was on the ice, so you purposely—”
