With that, he’s flicking the stick to the ground and stepping on it as he spins away to catch up to my brother, who’s already gone.

A phone is ringing, making me realize I still have Kenzie’s phone on me.

The name on the screen makes me frown, my heart skipping a few beats because of the timing of it all.

FRANKIE (DOUCHE EX).

I know without a doubt I need everything on this Fernadez kid and why he and Kenzie broke up.

Heck, why were they even together?

I’m so into my thoughts that my reflexes aren’t fast enough to stop Winchester from grabbing the phone in my grasp.

And slamming it into the ground.

I’m sure my reaction should be more proactive while I watch Winchester have a literal temper tantrum against my girl’s phone.

My girl… God. I’m smitten already. No. I’m a fucking goner for Andrews.

“You!” he snaps and has me pinned against the pillar behind me. I’m actually impressed with his sudden spike of strength, but then again, he only got this far because I didn’t put up a fight.

Before I can talk sense to him, I’m surprised to feel his lips press firmly against mine.

Instead of my stomach fluttering with butterflies like plenty of times in the past, it clenches in disgust while this buzzing feeling of dismay rushes through me.

As if this is all wrong.

It’s strong enough for me to push Jayce back, the two of us just staring at one another with wide eyes.

“You’re MINE!” Jayce snaps as he struggles not to shed a damn tear as his eyes water. “When I call you, you come! When I need you to bail me out, you bail me out! Your loyalty is only for me! Do you get it?! I’m your best friend! No one should be getting that benefit!”

Sad to say, I don’t know how to reply to that, because things have changed.

And he knows it.

“I don’t care what you need me to do,” I finally reply, but tower over him with a single step. “You leave Andrews out of it, and I’ll be the good loyal puppy I’ve always been.”

He’s shocked to see me protecting her—proving she’s more than just some puck bunny in his eyes—but he either cooperates or loses me entirely.

With his brother’s performance, he can’t afford to lose my support.

“Deal,” he finally declares. “Only Andrew. Outside of hockey shit.”

“Only Andrews,” I confirm. “Though you gotta wait for me to get a new phone.”

He frowns and looks to the floor where pieces of Kenzie’s phone are everywhere.

“Fine.” He grunts and steps away. “I’m going.”

I don’t reply. I just watch him walk away until he’s nowhere in sight.

With a sigh of my own, I pinch my nose, wondering why everything escalated tonight.

Confrontation after confrontation after fucking confrontation. It has to be mercury retrograde, I swear.

“You’re probably going to need a vacation soon.”

I’m genuinely not surprised to hear my brother’s voice yet again. I had a strong feeling he wouldn’t leave me with Jayce.
