What my heart is afraid to ask is whether Andrews wants me back.
Would she give me a chance?
“I’m not into girls,” I repeat what I told her when we first met after so many years. The same statement I used even way back then when our crew fell apart, and we were left to go our separate ways.
“Then what are you into, Armani?”
There’s no going back now.
“You.” The single word feels like it steals the very breath out of me.
“I’m a girl, Armani,” she reminds me as if I’ve forgotten.
That makes me smile.
“You’re my girl, Mackenzie.”
I lift my hand, reaching back until I can get a hold of her left cheek, even as she looks down into my eyes.
“You calling me Mackenzie is weird,” she admits while her eyes soften with an expression full of tenderness.
“Say my name,” I whisper the command.
“Oscar,” she whispers back in a seductive voice.
“Weird,” I admit, but I don’t stop myself from the inevitable as I lean upward, just as she leans downward.
“Guess we’re both weird,” she manages to say before there’s nothing but sweet silence afterward.
My first kiss… with a woman.

“Yo, man. Do you mind helping me out with bringing this shit up?”
I pause in pressing the elevator button to see Leo struggling to hold several flat-surfaced boxes.
“What is that?” I ask as I give up the idea of going up to meet him halfway.
“Be careful,” Leo warns. “These are the glass panels for Mack’s suite,” he reveals. “We did an inspection of all the suites in both buildings, and only hers is missing quite a few. Such a hazard.”
“Have you told her that?” The mere thought of her being in trouble doesn’t sit well in the pit of my stomach.
I’d barely seen her this week.Aside from during the practice games the Pincer Blades have been conducting, she’s been busy getting situated in her new role as team nurse.
Today, in particular, she was sick and didn’t come in.
That’s why I came by to check if she was doing good. Now that I think about it, I could have brought some food or even hot chocolate.
Boyfriend shit.
Why didn’t I do that?
“Nah, I haven’t yet. I think the problem is, we don’t know where to situate her while the construction is underway,” Leo reveals. “I’m sure she’s moved in the stuff she needs for the season, but the glass panels don’t seem like the only ‘wrong’ thing in her suite. I’m going to do another review with Oliver around so we can determine whether she can stay in there while we fix the quick corner bullshit the builders did to wrap things up or if we’re going to have to fight them in redoing it.”
“Damn,” I mutter as I watch him walk back to get the remainder of the boxes.Using my hip to press the button for the elevator, I notice how wobbly I feel.
