“WH-WHAT?!” Her stuttered gasp is filled with horror. “Lord Heavenly Father. Forgive me for all my sins.”

Oscar is losing it now.

“You’re not even religious!”

“Th-That’s a LIE! I believe in God, Mother Gaia, Karma, and Nessie!”

“Nessie?”

“From Twilight.”

“Are you referring to the Loch Ness Monster?”

“YES!”

The way Oscar laughs follows with a chair falling over.

“O.M.G! Did you just fall down? Stop laughing!”

“You believe in the Lock Ness Fucking Monster as a god?”

“Shut up!!!” she shouts, and I feel like she’s throwing shit at him.

“Ow. Okay, okay. I’m sorry. Don’t throw the table or pulse monitor at me. God, the doctor is going to kill me.”

“Oscar…”

The room is quiet for a moment, I wonder if they’re kissing or hugging.

“We’ll fix this, right?” she whispers.

“We’ll fix it,” Oscar affirms. “And if we really can’t, we just have to try all over again.”

“You think I can love him again?”

“I think Wyatt is the one you’d love in every universal plane, Kenzie,” he whispers. “Just give him the opportunity, and he’ll take it.”

“Okay,” she actually sounds hopeful. “Now kiss me before my parents come back.”

“I can do more than that,” he whispers.

Closing the tiny space silently, I leave them to stand near the bench.

With a few inhales and exhales, I close my eyes and let my emotions leave me. There’s only one emotion that lingers and helps me remain focused on doing what I should have been doing up until now.

Anger…
