Our building…

The residence building.

A single thought rushes through my head before my eyes grow wide, and the glass in my hand slips away.

“Muffin.”

The crash of my glass is nothing compared to the screams and shouts igniting across the grand ballroom, but Wyatt is at my side in seconds, his hands on my shoulders.

“Xandra. Breathe. What’s wrong?”

“Muffin,” I say it again before my eyes are wide with fear. “Muffin!”

All I have to do is look past Wyatt to see my words register in Oscar’s expression.

“Mittens is in danger, Oscar!” I scream and realize how bad this is.

This is horrifying.

“Cyrus Jr, protect Kenzie!” Armani shouts before sprinting off.

“Wait!” I scream and shake Wyatt off, sprinting after him.

“Xandra!” Wyatt’s chasing my tail as we race through the venue until we’re bursting out of the building into the chilled breeze parking lot.

By the time I come to a screeching halt, I’m watching Armani’s Hellcat speed up the hill toward the massive cloud of smoke that’s filling the air.

“Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. We need to get there!” I look around, but Wyatt isn’t anywhere to be found. “Fuck!”

“Nurse Andrews!” Mitchel calls out to me as the rest of the team is rushing down the stairs toward me. “What’s happening? Where did Oscar go?!”

“Our… our kitten!” I emphasize as I turn to face them. “Our cat. Muffin Mittens. She’s in my suite! We were going to pick her up after the ball and return the key.”

“Shit!” Kane hisses. “The fucking cat Winchester’s allergic to, Mittens?”

“Fuck! Royce, Silas, Ryker… get the cars!”

“GOT IT!” They shout and disperse to their designated cars, but we’re wasting time.

It may be too late.

A loud roar of an engine follows a dark red Camaro that screeches to a stop before us.

“Get in!” Wyatt urges.

I’m racing to the front before I catch on to Leo’s shouts.

“LET ME COME!” He’s sprinting toward the stairs before he literally jumps off the top step and at the very bottom without breaking anything.

“Shit, Leo. What’s wrong?” Axel questions.

“Katherine is at the residences!”

“Katherine? You mean Caren?” Mitchel questions. “She was here before. Why is she back there?”

“She was feeling unwell, so I brought her back to the residence to rest. She’s been dealing with panic and anxiety attacks, and it got really bad tonight,” he explains and gets in the back seat. “Everyone, get up there before it’s impossible to reach with the emergency crew blocking shit off. Something fishy is going on!”

“Why is it fishy?” Axel ponders. The moment Leo’s door closes, Wyatt presses on the gas and races toward the hill.
