Hopefully, they’ll show their true colors long before the truth comes out.

“Let’s do it,” Wolfgang cheers. “Say hi to Grandma Harvey and get some drinks at Jack’s?”

“We can go somewhere more expensive if you guys want,” Damien suggests, but Wolfgang shakes his head.

“Nah. As long as we’re together, doesn’t matter where we go. Save yourdatemoney.”

Damien chuckles and walks over to Wolfgang before he leans right in to whisper, “?? ? ??? ?? ? ??? ?.”Don’t get mad when I steal your lover.

I’m impressed my understanding of Korean hasn’t gone sour.I can understand it but still struggle to speak it fluently. That’s why I don’t tell people I can speak Korean.

Damien knows that I understand him, though.

“What you say?” Wolfgang pouts in annoyance. “Speak in Russian!”

“My Russian translator isn’t working today,” Damien feigns as he sighs dramatically. “Too much action today tired my brain out.”

“Bullshit.” Ace laughs and grabs onto Wolfgang before he can try to headlock it out of Damien.

“Wait. Let me get it out of him! What does whatever you said mean?!”

“I don’t kiss and tell,” Damien proudly states and waves them goodbye while Ace drags Wolfgang out.

“Maddox! Tell me what he said!” I hear him call out from the hall before the door closes.

I can’t leave him hanging, so I walk to the door and open it up just to shout, “I can’t speak Korean anymore.”

“I bet you fucking understand it!”

Smartie pants.

Wolfgang always observes more than he reveals. I swear it’s a Russian thing.

“See you soon!”

I let go of the door and walk back to my stuff.

“Fuck,” I finally let out a curse while I sink to the bench. Pressing my head back against the lockers, I try not to think of what just happened with Jayce.

Fucker could just be a man and admit it.

“He won’t budge,” Damien mutters and I open my eyes to see him not only standing in front of me but leaning over with his hands pressed against the lockers just above my head.

I stare at him for a long moment, unsure if I want to deal with this now.

Too much happened today. Do I want to add more?

“Yet you keep trying,” Damien mutters and tilts his head just slightly. “Why?”

“It’ll kill him, Damien,” I dare to let the words out. “Hiding that shit.” I look up at him and let him see the fear that I hide so fucking well from them.

“You can’t be a savior to everyone, O’Riley.” He further leans down until our faces are just inches apart. “You can’t save someone who doesn’t want to be saved.”

“And if he perishes, Damien?” I offer in return before glancing at his lips and back into his eyes, which are black with only a hint of brown. “Who is to blame?”

He doesn’t say anything. Instead, he leans down enough that our lips barely touch with the movement of his lips.

“Him, Maddox,” he says as quietly as he can.
