“Don’t be too intimidated by the players. A lot of them are jocks, but they all have dreams of reaching the top and that strive can take them really far. With someone like you around, I think you’ll further help them achieve their goals. Who knows what the future has in store for whichever team you choose, but no matter, I think you’ll enjoy this placement and what it delivers in return.”
“Thank you, Amelia.” Any nerves I carried about this place flutter away like butterflies being freed into the wild. “I’m honored to be a part of this new chapter.”
“As we are to have you.” She gestures to the changing room door. “Now, change into your scrubs. Just a reminder, try not to wear them when you’re not working. I don’t want the boys pestering you on your days off.”
“I’ll keep that in mind,” I assure her.
With those words, I head into the changing room and take a deep breath.
The moment of truth. Time to make a pucking decision.
Wrong Pucking Team
~MIKAYLA~
“I will literally fight them if they get Mishka.”
I really can’t believe this is happening.
I fight off a smile as I stand next to Dr. Bridgett Anderson.
Here I am, on the ice with borrowed skates, accompanied by the doctor I’ll be shadowing today. I’m obviously not becoming a doctor, but Dr. Bridgett—her personal request to be called that instead of Dr. Anderson so no one assumes she’s male—is one of the newly hired doctors who’d yet to be assigned to one of the teams.
We met outside the entrance to the training rink, where both teams are waiting for us to have this grand introduction before the coaches got to decide who goes where. With the way it was looking, I’d most likely be assigned to work alongside Dr. Bridgett since I was the only team nurse currently here on her side.
On our far left was my bestie, Alexandra, standing next to another team nurse intern. They were both behind a tall man who I’m assuming was Doctor Ralph Francisco since someone called him that upon his arrival on the ice. One glance his way and I knew I got the better doctor on the rink because his scowl expression seemed permanent.
Cranky Doctor Alert.
It honestly reminded me of those horrendous professors whose main purpose in life was to make students’ lives miserable.
Unless you were the favorite They’re always kind to the favorite.
Only now, we weren’t dealing with university professors and favoritism. This was the real workplace and could offer us our future careers, so having a group of individuals who made this transition and potential employment opportunity reasonably enjoyable would be a blessing.
While having a team of assholes would make this internship a living hell.
All I had to do was keep praying I got the better end of the stick, but I had no doubt in my mind that my bestie was going to have some mega problems because she wasn’t the suck-up type.
Far from it. She’ll be a savage bitch to the end if it means she doesn’t have to play the fake card.
Despite that, our dilemmas in the team department were the least to surprise me.
The biggest surprise is that my Heartbreaker Crew is here.
Only split up, on opposite pucking teams.
Ace Harvey #22 Defense, Damian Owens #33 Defense, and Wolfgang Augustus #44 Goalie are officially on the Strattonville Vipers. I don’t know how such important news wasn’t presented to me at the bar, but then again, I totally hadn’t told them about my internship.
Pucking surprise! Let’s have a Heartbreaker Crew reunion at work.
On the other side are Oscar Armani, Kane Sylvester Jr, and Diesel Valerian. I didn’t get a chance to view their positions or jersey numbers because Amelia arrived with Dakota and David Champion, Public Relations Director.
Both teams are in full official gear, making it hard to get a good view of their actual appearance under all that padding, but my Heartbreaker Kings had all grown up into muscled beasts.
I’ll have to check for the details afterward.
Over some drinks would be extra nice.
