“Watch as your world goes burning down.”

“FIRE!”

We flinch at the screech and look around, but the scream comes from a woman who’s pointing to a big screen that is suddenly on the news channel. All eyes land on it, and my eyes grow wide when we see what has grabbed everyone’s attention.

Fire.

A building is on fire…

“The dorms…” Maddox’s voice barely reaches my ears before he curses. “Mikayla!” He’s running before any of us can stop him.

“MADDOX!” Damien is right behind him, the two of them pushing through the crowd. “COACH JOHNSON! COACH CYRUS! MIKAYLA’S AT THE DORMS!”

The screams have some of our teams shouting back and running in herds, but I’m frozen in place.

I can’t move.

I can’t breathe.

Until Ace is shaking me like crazy.

“Breathe, Wolfgang!” Ace encourages me and grabs my cheeks for dear life. “You can’t panic now! If we get there on time, we can help her!”

I blink a few times and slowly register his words.

He’s right. We can prevent this from going downhill.

I can’t freeze up now.

Mishka needs us. Needs me to make this right.

I slowly nod and take a few breaths.

“The guy who’s been stalking me set this up,” I whisper.

“How long?” Ace whispers.

“Six,” I breathe the word out, “Six years.”

Ace looks furious in seconds, but he nods and grabs my hand.

“We focus on getting Mickey out of there,” he announces, so I know the game plan. “Then we find that fucker and get him arrested for life.”

We’re running toward the exit.

Burn It All Down

~MADDOX~

I stole a car.

That’s the only thing I can fixate my mind on while I drive over the legal speed limit up the hilly road that still feels too far away from my target.

The building is burning…

I don’t know how much time has passed.

I honestly don’t know how I even got here.
