“I thought that douche was going to hurt you!” Dimitri exclaims before groaning. “Ah, fuck. I have to run back to my car. I kinda just left it in the middle of the road.”
“Y-You left it in the middle of the road? Dimitri!” I don’t know what to say.
“Umm… don’t worry about it. I’ll run back and pray no one crashes into it.” He sounds like he’s already sprinting back. “Are you safe?”
“Uh… yes,” I admit. “Damien’s here in front of me.”
“Thank goodness.” He sounds so relieved. “Fuck, Mikay, you can’t be alone with Jayce. He’s like a ticking time bomb.”
I guess that’s a good way to describe how it feels to confront him.
“Thanks, Dimitri, for worrying about me.” My voice is so soft-spoken, I hope he can hear me. “Um, don’t worry about coming to my place, cool? I’ll come over when I get back to the dorms.”
“You sure?” He sounds worried.
“Yeah, I think I’m going to take an Uber or something home and call it a night. I’ll come back to the dorms tomorrow.”
“Who will drive you?”
“I’ll just take an Uber again. Don’t worry, I have some credits on my account I can use for the long distance.”
“You’re sure you’ll be okay, Mikay?”
I feel like if I’m not, he’ll abandon his car again to come to the hospital.
“I’m okay, Dimitri.” I smile, even though I feel emotionally tired. “I’m really grateful to have you as a friend, Dimitri.”
“Likewise, Mikay.”
“I’ll see you tomorrow, okay?”
“Okay,” he replies and adds, “Only if you’re up for it. Make sure you rest and follow the doctor’s instructions, Miss ‘I’m A Nurse.’”
“Yes, yes.” My grin grows wider. “Bye, Dimitri.”
“Bye.”
Hanging up, I look to see Damien’s attentive gaze before it lowers and takes in my appearance. With an arched brow, he pouts those smooth lips of his.
“That’s a hideous color on you,” he declares.
I don’t know if it’s the way he scrunches his face or how he says those words, but it makes me laugh until there are tears in my eyes.
“Admit it,” I begin between giggles. “You hate that I’m wearing your rival’s jersey.”
“Despise it.” He shakes his head and puts his hands on my shoulders before leaning in close. “Let’s burn it at my place.”
“Burn it?!” I gasp in horror.
“Fucking hell, give it back,” Jayce snarls.
I totally forgot he was still here, but I feel he’s not getting his jersey back because Damien has an arm protectively around my waist before he’s pulling me right against him in a tight embrace.
“No,” Damien replies. “Finders keepers.”
“Finders keepers?” Jayce repeats in disgust. “I swear, all of you act like immature brats!”
“Says the rich douche, pulling some strings to make sure he doesn’t get caught being in the wrong,” Damien dares say.
