“I’m okay,” I assure him. “I mean, I don’t have to go home. I can watch the game as long as I’m sitting.”
“It would be good for you to rest for the evening, Mikayla,” Dr. Bridgett urges. “I don’t want you coming down with something or having a late reaction when we don’t have the proper medication to treat you if there is an emergency. Now that I know we’re out of that allergen, I’ll get it ordered promptly, as well as do a detailed search of our inventory. It’s a good thing this happened, even though I dislike the idea of you being in pain, Mikayla.”
“You’re right,” she admits. “If none of this happened, we wouldn’t have known what’s out of stock. I don’t want to give anyone the privilege of thinking we’re slacking or anything.”
“Good,” Dr. Bridgett agrees and darts her eyes between Maddox and me.
“O’Riley, Harvey, head back and finish practice.”
Our miserable looks of disapproval only makes the doctor smile.
“Mikayla will be just fine with Dimitri’s company. He’ll ensure she gets back to her dorm, and he’s only a door down from her. She can reach out to if she needs him.”
“Wait,” Mikayla begins and looks at Dimitri. “We’re neighbors?”
“Mhmm.” He seems happy about that. “I took Caren with a C’s suite.”
“You did not?” Mickey gasps and hugs the man. “I love you!”
The way we growl in response, makes Dimitri freeze up in fear while Mikayla huffs.
“Ignore their overprotectiveness,” she urges and leans back to smile ear to ear.
I seriously don’t like this guy getting her attention like that.
“You gotta tell me the hot tea!”
“Hot tea, coming up,” Dimitri assures her and offers his hand. “Let’s walk back. We’re gonna have a general medical meeting tonight, so maybe you can take a nap before then.“
“I forgot about that,” she admits and lets Dimitri help her down.
Before I can move, Maddox is behind her and placing an arm around her waist.
All she has to do is look up to see Maddox’s blank stare.
The expression of pure jealousy.
I can’t blame him.
“Text me when you’re home and resting,” Maddox encourages. “If you feel worse, you call me right away.”
“But you’ll be on the ice,” she argues. “You’re not supposed to have your phone.”
“Not supposed,” he repeats. “Doesn’t apply to my girl.”
My girl. Priceless.
It makes me smirk while Mikayla blushes up a storm with Dimitri watching.
“Jeez, you guys are possessive,” Dimitri groans in disgust. “I’m gay. Ain’t going to pounce on your girl.” He shakes his head. “You two can fight for her attention.” He tugs Mikayla out of Maddox’s hand and has his arm around her.
Before either of us can react, he’s heading out of the room with her and giving Dr. Bridgett a wave.
“Heck, share her for all I care, but I ain’t wasting Mikayla’s time while you two play possessive tag. Thank you, Dr. Bridget. Hopefully, we’ll see you tonight at the meeting.”
“Thank you, Dimitri. Get some rest, Mikayla.”
“I will,” she calls back and glances over her shoulder to see our obvious annoyance.
