“I am.” Damien doesn’t hide his amusement. “So be a good boy and do as you’re told. It’d be a real shame for tonight’s news to revolve around ‘Dead Captain found in Strattonville Lake with gunshot wounds.’”

I’m speechless.

“Hmph.” Jayce actually backs down.

A surprise of the century.

Jayce walks away, but Damien has to have the last say.

“Don’t forget to order a new jersey,” he calls out. “I’m using this one to make a cozy fire while I sweet-talk Jagiya in hopes of winning a kiss.”

Jayce grunts and dares to whisper, “I don’t know what you Vipers think you’re doing, but you can’t share Mickey.”

“Why not?” Damien ponders. “If Jagiya is fine with it, that’s all that matters.”

I’m still processing his previous statement, which is why I lean my head back to look at Damien’s fierce gaze.

“You wanna kiss me?”

He looks down at me, his eyes softening while his lips curl in temptation.

“Since you were seventeen, Mikayla.”

That news has me blushing while he lowly chuckles.

“But you were Maddox’s girl.”

“I’m still Maddox’s girl,” I point out. “But…”

“But,” he repeats and leans in closer, making my heart skip and pick up the pace. “Say it, Jagiya.”

“B-But… I… wouldn’t… mind… kissing you.” I can’t believe I said that out loud.

With Jayce nearby at that.

“See, Winchester,” Damien begins, but his eyes are locked on mine. “If you just communicate, you can get everything you desire.”

Then his lips descend on mine.

Soft.

Sweet.

The perfect pace of movement.

We shouldn’t be doing this in the hallway or in the presence of someone like Jayce, who could snap a picture and use it against us, but I can’t pull away.

My body craves this.

These lips.

To be held like a precious gem in Damien’s arms.

Compared to Maddox, Damien is gentler, almost shy with every move he takes, but I have a strong hunch this is just the outer layer. The show for the world that assumes he’s a gentle beast who observes in the wild.

Our Heartbreaker King is far more dangerous behind closed doors.

I know it, feel it in my bones.
