“One of them,” I say with a wink. “Mack works as well.”

“In Australia, they call McDonald’s Macca or something,” he randomly points out. “Call her Macca.”

“She wouldn’t even be offended,” I point out. “She and I have so many nicknames, we interchange them at times. I think our families and close friends are used to our foolishness.”

“At least it makes life lively,” he praises. “I don’t really have any friends.”

“Then it’s about time you were my official new bestie, Dimitri,” I offer. “As long as you can survive my mood swings during my periods, we should be epic friends.”

“I can handle that.” I’ve never seen him smile so big. “If you need a hacker or someone to play CSI agent for the day, just let me know.”

I laugh.

“Please tell me there’s no evidence of me and Ace?”

“Nah. They hadn’t set all the cameras yet. I think they’re getting finalized by the end of this week, so if you need to do any more risky moves with your hockey men, better do so now.”

“Oh, no,” I groan. “Trust me, the only person I’m allowed to kiss without it being a conflict of interest or some sort of legal shit is Maddox.”

“So, you guys are official,” he concludes.

“Yes,” I admit and can’t stop the genuine lift of my lips. “I think Maddox was always going to be end game for me, but well… life went south.”

“Only way for us to grow it seems,” he acknowledges and rises up.

“Thanks for being so open with me, Dimitri,” I state and stand up. “Maybe I’ll share a bit about myself next time we have a longer lunch break.”

“You can share any time,” he encourages and pulls out his phone. “Let’s exchange numbers?”

“I’d love that.”

Once we do, we clean up and are ready to get back.

“Next week, we have to drive over a city down to do a pharmacy run,” Dimitri reminds. “We can take my car since we both have to grab stuff for Dr. Bridgett. I think it’ll take us two hours there and back if we leave at a good time.”

“That would be delightful.” I’m relieved because I hate traveling to far places by myself. I will if I must, but doesn’t mean I’m going to enjoy it. “Would make it a lot more fun.”

“We can see if Macca needs to do a run and go together.”

“As long as Caren with a C ain’t coming.”

“Hell, no.” The dreadful expression on his face should be enough to prove what a hindrance she is. “She’s too much of a bitch. I hate people with judgmental attitudes. She’s one of those people born into money who think everyone else is beneath them.”

“Right on.”

He’s totally right.

“Let’s get back to work,” Dimitri encourages. “I have a strong feeling by the end of this week, we’re going to be super busy.”

“Agreed.”

In the end, this is what we signed up for.
