Even so, I made myself a promise. I wouldn’t take the easy way out by attempting death. I’d endure this, so I could gouge out my enemy’s black heart and eat it while it was still throbbing when my strength returned.
Despite his belief, the horseman wouldn’t be able to forge a mating bond with me. Marlowe was the most dominant predator, and our mating bond was unbreakable.
“You won’t be able to talk for a while, Aria, even though you like to talk a lot,” Spartoi said. “But don’t you fuss. I’ll keep you informed and speak for both of us. Jared dreamed about setting up a bridal room for you, but I tweaked his version to make this special room for you instead.”
He gave my nude body an appreciative look. I didn’t react at all until I could strike. And when I struck him, it’d be deadly.
“You look so pure and docile lying on my bed.” He continued to taunt me, not exactly thrilled that he hadn’t gotten a rise out of me. “Jared is a lucky guy. He doesn’t even need to undress you.”
I peeked into his purple eyes, searching for and then calling the black wolf inside this corrupted vessel. The wolf was my best shot now. He’d saved me twice. I tried to break the wall down to reach him, pleading for help in my utter desperation.
The Alpha King’s face distorted, as if he was suffering a sudden pain.
He clenched his teeth. For a moment, it seemed the wolf was trying to claw out to defend me, but then a twisted smile tugged on War’s lips.
“Aren’t you cunning, little Aria?” he said. “Trying to turn the beast against me? He tried. Oh, he tries all the time, but Jared wouldn’t help him. We wouldn’t tolerate any rebellion, not even from his own beast. The more the wolf struggles, the more his power and rage fuel me. But now, I’ll just send him back to the silver cage made for him. We don’t want him to cause any trouble, do we? If he tries to come out to impress you again, the cage will only shock him into submission. Wolves certainly don’t like being electrocuted even though they can tolerate incredible pain. It’s kind of sad that I’ll have to constantly put some effort into locking him up in a safe place for his own good. He isn’t as relentless at trying to break out as before. I know you shared a deeper bond with the wolf than with the man. Anyway, this is a beautiful moment for you and Jared. I’ve promised him that, and I don’t plan on breaking my promise. A man is nothing if he can’t keep his promises. Do you know Jared lives for this moment? He’s very romantic.”
War traced my ice-cold face with his knuckles, lust burning in his eyes. He still wore the Alpha King’s face. I didn’t even care who took the lead next since they both repulsed me. So I just stared at my enemy, unmoving and unflinching. He’d rape a corpse-like being.
“So soft and lovely,” the horseman of war tsked. “Jared is a lucky guy.”
I still didn’t react despite the acid churning in my stomach.
“Don’t worry, Aria,” the horseman continued. “Jared will take control soon and fuck you good and hard. We won’t waste a gorgeous body like yours. Even after we claim you, we won’t cast you aside, unlike those worthless douches. You’ll always stand by our side, fight by our side, empower us during the day and warm our bed at night.”
His purple eyes turned to winter gray, and Jared surfaced.
The Alpha King stared at my bare pussy with unbridled lust.
“I dream about you just like this every night,” he said in a gasp. “Now you’re finally here with me, Pip. We’re going to be mates again.”
I looked at him blankly. He stroked my pussy, trying to evoke some response. He wasn’t going to get any.
He spread my legs wider, and I could do nothing about it.
Rapid knocks sounded on the door. It was probably from his minions. The dark mages and witches were waiting impatiently for the show to start so they could get the leftovers of my power as well. I’d kill them all.
The Alpha King snapped his head to the door with a snarl.
Then commotion broke out outside the door: frantic yelling followed by profane curses and the sound of a fist punching a head. A couple of bodies must have fallen to the ground, judging by the thud.
Yet I wouldn’t get my hopes up. I was at the top of the tower. Even if Freckles had gotten to Shade and his guards, they couldn’t get to me this fast, considering they’d have to fight the horde of dark mages and witches who guarded the tower.
And the horseman of war had issued the order to kill them. Fear for my friends and family iced my blood, so much so that I forgot my own dread. I could take any shit War threw at me, but I couldn’t bear to see them hurt, and they’d get hurt because of me.
The door flew open, and of all people, Going-gray stood in the doorway, his hands balled into fists; his knuckles were tainted with blood.
A few bodies writhed on the ground behind him.
His stormy gaze darted from the Alpha King to me, then back to the Alpha King, as he could barely stand the sight of me. I bet he could see what was happening here—I was incapacitated, and his king was about to rape me.
In a second, the rage ebbed from his brown eyes. His face turned as dispassionate as a rock.
“Your Majesty, I apologize profusely for disturbing you,” Going-gray started. “But this matter of national security needs your immediate attention.”
“What matter?” the Alpha King snapped at his commander. “I’ve sent the guards and the mages to round up my brother and everyone he brought in with him. They turned out to be fucking spies. You should be smarter instead of being deceived by him! This can’t happen again!”
“Noted, sir.” Going-gray bowed. “Prince Shade, the traitor, will be dealt with. But this is much more urgent than the matter of your brother, Your Majesty. The Vampire God and his army are right outside the castle.”
