Finally, he pulled back. “If we don’t stop now, I’m going to end up taking you back to my place for the night.” There was something of an offer there, and a bit of a warning.

She nodded as she caught her breath. “You’re right. We… we should probably stop.”

The light above the door showed her flushed face, her dilated pupils under the halo of golden hair. Her lips looked swollen from the aggressive kissing. She was the most gorgeous thing he’d ever seen.

He couldn’t stop himself from reaching out and brushing his fingers across her cheek. “Does it scare you… how fast this is moving?”

“Yes. Oh yes.” Her voice trembled a little “This is all new to me.”

Angel wasn’t entirely sure what she meant. They’d covered so much new ground. “It scares me too, chiquita. It’s been a long time since I felt like this. I’m not sure I was prepared for how intense it would be.”

“I’ve never…” She trailed off.

“Never what, Heaven?” Was she a virgin? With her upbringing, he wouldn’t have been surprised.

“Never felt like this before.” She sounded a little dazed, but after a second, she shook it off and smiled. “It was a great night, despite the punishment.”

He raised an eyebrow at her. “Or maybe because of it?”

Heaven laughed. “Maybe. But it’s probably a good time for me to go in.” She paused. “I’m not—a casual girl, Angel. Do you know what I mean?”

He tilted his head. “I’m not sure. Can you explain?”

There was a long pause as she worked through her thoughts. Finally she shook her head. “Not really to be honest. I just know that I need to be sure of how you feel before we go further than we already have. If”—she hesitated and then pushed on—“if you decide this isn’t working out now, it will hurt, but I’ll be okay. Later? Not so much. I can’t handle another heartbreak right now.”

That made sense. With everything she’d been through, and everything he’d been through, all of this fast building to a relationship could destroy them both if it didn’t work out in the end. He wanted her, but there was also a part of him that wanted to build a wall between them.

When he didn’t reply, she must have thought he still didn’t understand. “Fast I can do, Angel, but not casual. If we go further, it will mean something to me, so I have to know that it will mean something to you too. Does that make sense?”

It made perfect sense. When she committed her body, her heart went with it. He could live with that. It wouldn’t be easy, but he could. “It does, and it’s worth waiting a little longer then, so we can both be sure.”

He took a deep breath, trying to calm his nerves, and then reached around her to open the door. “I’d better get you back.”

He made sure she was checked in before he left her. Not that he thought she’d be running off anywhere while her backside was still hot and sore, of course. She waved as she headed toward her room, and he waved back, but then he stood there watching until she disappeared.

Every instinct in him wanted to call her back and take her home. To his home. But for both their sakes, he needed to stop trying to rush things. Even at Rawhide Ranch relationships didn’t move that fast… most of the time.

Chapter 12

It was long past dinner by the time he left her at the dorms. She felt like she was floating on a cloud several feet off the ground. She’d thought the picnic lunch was going to be the highlight of her day, but it hadn’t even made the top five moments by the end.

Her punishment spanking had turned into a dinner date. At least, it felt like it had been a date, even if she had been the one to cook. It had been fun with just the two of them—very cozy and domestic.

She had a lot to think about. Her arousal during the spanking had been unexpected. It had made the first part, the warmup, fairly pleasant and it was probably the first spanking she’d actually enjoyed. There would have been guilt over that, except he’d “fixed” the problem by going to work on her thighs.

Even her greedy core couldn’t hold out when the backs of her legs were being seared with one blistering smack after another. Now though, the sting had started to die down and the warmth was soaking in. Between that and his kiss… she was in a state.

She almost wanted to run after Angel and ask if she could spend the night after all. The audacity of that shocked her a little bit. She was definitely not the type to jump in bed with someone she barely knew.

She didn’t need marriage. She wasn’t going to hold out until her wedding night, but she needed some sign that he was committed to her before she took things further. He seemed to understand and accept that—which was great.

Her own body however… was not so on board with waiting. There was a throbbing low in her body that practically demanded release. Angel was a temptation hard to resist.

What made it even more of a temptation was thinking about what he’d said. The part about spankings feeling different in an adult headspace made sense, of course. When she was in Little mode she wasn’t thinking about sex, and spankings were something to be avoided at all costs.

But then, when she was in Little mode, she rarely got in trouble. She didn’t need to sneak out when she was in that younger place. It was her adult side that was the problem almost all the time, so she was usually still in that place when spanked.

And even if, when things got intense and hurty, she did slip in and out of the Little girl mindset during punishments, she was still mostly adult. And she’d still never felt turned on like she had with him.
