Page 42 of Break for Me

“Just keep your pants on…off? Gross. Give me a second.”

She was quiet for a minute. I wouldn’t need her help anymore if she took any longer. The molten rage boiling inside me had to be close to spilling out my ears. That would probably melt my arm right off and then I’d be on my way.

“Okay. I’m going to call the hotel and then get started on tracking her. I assume she never found the device in her shoe?”

“If she did, she sure as fuck didn’t tell me about it.”

“Just wait there. I’ll have someone at your door in a minute. Don’t go anywhere.”

“You’re hilarious. I’ve never laughed so hard in my life,” I said with nothing but disdain.

She giggled at herself. “Call me when you’re free again.”

Luckily, I was not the kind of man who could be embarrassed. It didn’t phase me in the slightest when the night manager of this hotel let himself into the room.

“Your friend called and said you needed some help,” the dumbass said.

Was he really explaining why he was in this room right now?

I rattled the handcuff so hard the whole bed shook. “I. Know. Why. You’re. Here.”

“Women, huh?” He chuckled.

Oh my fucking God.

“The duffel bag by the window,” I said. “Bring it over here.”

He stopped on his way across the room to pick my pants up off the floor and toss them in my direction.

“Did you at least get any first?” He asked while he knelt to pick up the bag.

“What?”

“It was the girl with the backpack, right? The one who left a little earlier tonight? She was the only person who’s left in the last few hours. She was something. Hope you at least got lucky before she left you like this. Made it worth it, you know?”

He paused to smile right after he’d said it.

Was he picturing her?

Was I really considering breaking the nose of the person who was about to help free me?

“Bring me the fucking bag.”

He laughed again when he placed the bag on the bed in front of me.

“You need me to call somebody for you or anything?” He asked.

“I need you to get the fuck out.”

I had at least seven different ways to get out of these handcuffs tucked away in this bag. There was no way under the sun that she could’ve taken them all with her when she left. I just needed to be alone before I endangered anyone simply by being in the presence of another human once I was freed.

She’d been in a hurry to get out of here. She left the spare key to the cuffs right in the fucking bag. She must have been blinded by the amount of motherfucking cash that she’d taken from the bag instead. I growled and seethed and stomped my way all around that room to gather my shit and figure out just how much she’d stolen before she disappeared. I had everything packed up and was on my way down to the parking lot in record time. She had a head start but she didn’t know how easy it would be to locate her this time. She wouldn’t make it more than a few miles ahead of me if she was still on foot.

The bag fell right off my shoulder and hit the gravel with a thud when my eyes landed on Seph. That little witch had taken a page right out of my own motherfucking book. She’d slashed all four tires and left the only female on this planet that I openly worshipped sitting on her fucking rims out here in the gravel.
