Jack motioned to the display case. “Everything here was made this morning.” He winced.

“Ah,” Beckett said. “You were late to relieve your roommate, I take it?”

“She was pissed,” Jack announced, shaking his head.

“I’m sure you can earn your way back into her good graces,” Beckett assured him. “What’s your favorite?”

Jack pointed to the brownies. “These. Best brownies I’ve ever had in my entire life. They never disappoint.”

“And how often do you sample the merchandise?” Beckett teased.

Jack wanted to kiss those quirking lips, the dimples threatening to appear. This just wasn’t fair.

“Almost never,” Jack tried, his gaze flicking to Beckett’s, then down to his lips. “I’ve been a good boy, so I haven’t sampled them today. My punishment for being late.”

Beckett cleared his throat, hand smoothing down his tie nervously.

Good. I want to make you nervous.

“I’ll take two, then, please,” Beckett said, oh-so-sweetly.

If he asked like that, he could have anything he wanted, Jack thought.

Jack shook two paper treat bags out and slid open the glass doors at the back of the case. A sheet of wax paper protected the first brownie as he grabbed it and slid it into one of the white treat bags. He glanced up at Beckett, who watched his movements with curious concentration.

“So what do you do that has you wearing a suit like that?”

Beckett only straightened his already straight tie, tracing his fingers down his lapel. “I’m actually a sales support associate.”

Jack almost dropped the second brownie.

“I know, I know. It’s overkill, right?”

“It just sounds so…”

“Boring,” they both announced.

Jack grimaced. “Sorry.”

“No, no. It’s my own doing. I wanted something safe that would set me up.”

“No harm in that,” Jack told him, and tapped at the touch screen to total his order. He swiveled the screen to Beckett. As he paid, Jack slid the brownie bags across the short counter.

Jack watched Beckett as he slid the card back into his wallet and pocketed it in one smooth move. So he was rich, too, huh? Sales support associate in a fancy ass suit that smelled like fresh greenery.

Damn guy was the whole fucking package.

He took one of the brownies, paper crinkling, and slid the other back towards Jack.

“What—”

“Your reward. For being such a good boy.”

And with that, the too-attractive blond alpha in his verdant green suit and matching nails winked, and left.

Just like that.

Jack followed him with his gaze until he passed the windows, disappearing from sight. Once he picked his jaw up off the floor, he brushed his fingers over the paper of the brownie bag.
