Rinse repeat until the threats to Harmonia are extinguished.
Cold energy slides down my spine and grips me by the balls. It’s close to jumping into an ice bath after sitting in a steamy sauna for hours. At first I think I’m bleeding out from some unseen wound, but when I angle myself toward Harmonia, I realize it’s her fear reaching out to me.
“Wolfe.”
The tremor of Harmonia’s voice breaks the hold Death has on me.
On my knee, I turn to see her clutching at the forearm of another Primrose enforcer.
“Stay the fuck back, asshole. We’re just here for the girls.”
Girls?
Another man I can’t see behind the one holding onto Harmonia breaks into Spanish.
“Vámonos, cabrón. Agarra la chica y vámonos.”
Let’s go asshole. Grab the girl.
I think. My Spanish isn’t perfect but I understand enough to know that the Colombian wants to get out of here and fast. I should help them.
“I’m really starting to think some higher power has it out for me.”
I laugh low in my chest. “You’re okay, beautiful. You’re okay.”
“Go ahead and laugh, but I’m not so sure.”
I wink at her. I don’t know if it is divine intervention or what but just at that moment a bolt of lightning rips across the sky right when I signal for her to hit the floor.
She lifts her knees and the sudden unbalance forces the man locking an arm around her neck to release.
The second her knees hit the floor I say, “Stay down!” Harmonia doesn’t take the time to question if she should trust me. For the split second it takes for her to read my signal and get her body moving, trust shines through all the doubt shimmering behind those wet lashes.
It drives hope into the deadened ends of my emotions. I haven’t felt a thing for another person since the day I lost her. If killing every single person out to see her back in her mother’s clutches is what it will take to prove I never betrayed her and never will, then I will spill blood until my body can no longer keep up.
The blade in my hand is in her attacker's chest before he realizes what is going on. He hits the floor with a thud that melts into the sound of rumbling thunder. I grab his gun and bury a bullet into the Colombians brain. There now they are well on their way and should arrive at the devil’s door any second.
“Wolfe!”
Harmonia crawls to me and I pull her into my arms. “Don’t think I am a monster. I will never hurt you.” I tuck her face into my neck and hold her against me until I can feel half human again. But you are a monster, the voice in my head whispers.
“You came for me?”
I press my lips over hers. She tastes pure. Clean. Sweet and every bit of the angel I remember her as.
“I always will. I’m not your enemy, Harmonia. I never was.”
She blinks up at me and utters words I’m not prepared to hear. “I’m not your angel. Not anymore, Wolfe. I’m damaged.”
Her eyes never waiver from mine. “Then be my villain and I’ll be yours.”

Avery
I’m thrown off balance.
His? I’ve always been the good girl in his eyes. Never be the one to step out of line. Do as I am told.
