The twitch of her lips causes my chest to hurt in a good way.

I swallow hard against the emotions choking me. “No one has ever loved me before.” Not my mother, father, or anyone after. Ares’ affection for me as a brother and the other Savages don’t count. My confession sparks something deep inside me I don’t want to look at too closely.

Her fingers find the edges of my hair and she brushes them from my face. “Then I will be the first.”

Our breath mingles. I thread my fingers through her hair as it falls to either side of us like a shield against the world.

“You are unlike anyone I’ve—”

“—ever kidnapped before.” Her eyes glitter, daring me to counter her words.

It is the smile that does it for me. This woman is the one and only. In a realm beyond the powers of my eyesight, the threads of our worlds intertwine. Wherever she goes, wherever life takes us, we will forever be connected.

We are in the middle of a room filled with people and my cock is growing hard under this sheet. Fuck, am I even dressed under there?

Someone clears their throat and I lift a hand, giving them the finger. They can wait another damn minute.

She sighs a heavenly sound and my world fades to only her. If this is what love feels like, it’s better than any fucking high I can get with a pill.

“I think we owe them an explanation, amor.”

“Iguess I should start from the top.”

Rage officially introduces me to everyone, though I met them all upstairs. Nova is Ares’ partner and baby momma. Dragon and Asena are an item and are parents of a cute little girl. Riot and Lilith are the newest couple, but have a story that goes back six years. And then there’s the club candy, and the newly patched in members, Casanova, Blaze and Macedonia.

I haven’t been around so many people who care about each other ever, now that I think about it. I didn’t catch everything, and I am still a little unsure about all the names, but I know once I have a moment that someone isn’t trying to kill me or my sister, I want to get to know everyone better.

Ares folds his arms over the wide expanse of his chest and gives Rage his undivided attention. The weight of his focus feels electric, but Rage doesn’t seem bothered by the intensity.

“How did your brother’s head get in a jar and why did you go AWOL, brother?” Confusion colors Ares’ tight expression. He’s hurting and isn’t trying to hide it from anyone. Nova puts her arms around her man. She looks as calm and as beautiful as a queen should, with her ash-white hair spilling over her shoulders. He leans into her, letting her take some of his sorrow. The exchange is subtle, but their bodily communication is relationship goals. Relationship. The word is new to me.

I offer a small smile to Rage and he winks at me.

God, I love looking at him. Seeing his chest move up and down and feeling his heartbeat beneath my palm offer a sense of peace I didn’t know I could find in this life.

I didn’t know I wanted it. And now that I’ve had a taste, I don’t want to lose it.

Ares drags over a chair for Nova and the rest of the men stand around us—either their arms crossed over their chests or their hands stuffed in their pockets. Every single one of them hangs on Rage’s next words.

“It arrived at Asylum two nights before we took down the shipment Persi was found in.”

“Asylum? As in…” I ask.

Rage chuckles and then winces, grabbing for his chest. “I didn’t break out of an actual asylum, baby. I’m certifiable, but no one has caught up to me yet.”

“It’s a nightclub we own in the city,” Dragon offers.

“Ahh.”

Rage scrubs a hand down his face. “Anyway. I went out for a smoke and there he was, sitting on the edge of the dumpster in a black bag. Like trash.”

“You didn’t think to tell us?” That comes from the one named Dragon. His hair is pulled into a tight man bun at the back of his head, revealing his very pissed off expression.
