I take a step back and wave my hand around at the discarded papers scattered along the hall. “A lot. There are even three-way calls between Lionel, Bianca, and Archibald. So Lionel wasn’t the middleman. It’s the three of them somehow working together.”

She crouches down and grabs a handful of the papers, shifting through them as I drop down next to her. My eyes don’t stray from her face, memorizing each expression she makes as she goes through the information in front of her.

She’s fucking stunning. Even with her hair in a messy bun, sweatpants, and one of Hunter’s hoodies. They may swallow her whole, but there’s just something about seeing her in something that belongs to one of us that makes my dick hard.

“We need to get this to Vinny, and I need to call my dad. Maybe he has an idea of how she could be connected to all of this. It doesn’t feel random. There’s no way they got wind of her dating Vinny and decided to work with her.”

I purse my lips. “I don’t know, sweets. We’ve never had issues with these two until you came into our world.”

She drops the papers and shoots me an incredulous look. “So are you saying it’s my fault?”

“Fuck.” That came out all damn wrong. I drag her into my lap, her legs on either side of mine, and I cup her face, making sure she’s looking at me. “That’s not what I’m saying at all.” I shake my head.

Haylee raises a brow, waiting for me to elaborate.

“Maybe they’ve been background players the entire time, and before you, Bianca had it secured. But since you’ve been with us, you threatened her position, and that escalated it.”

Holy shit. Why didn’t I think of that before?

“That’s it,” she breathes. “You’re a fucking genius!” She smacks a sound kiss on my lips and jumps up from my lap. She paces back and forth across the small hallway, her hands waving in the air. “Depending on how they met, she could have been put in Vinny’s path.” Haylee stops abruptly and pins me with a stare. “Did Vinny approach her or the other way around?”

It takes me a minute to think back and damn it all to hell. She’s been a fucking plant this entire time.

“She approached him during a gala we attended. We both know Vinny gives fuck off vibes, but it never deterred her. She stuck to his side like glue and has been there ever since.”

Haylee wrinkles her nose. “I would have popped her tit. She would have run then.” I bellow a laugh. “Anyways…” She resumes pacing, waving her hands. I would never tell her, but it’s cute to watch her think. “If that’s the case, that means Lionel has been trying to take over the west coast and the east simultaneously. Shit, I need to let Dad know that too. Have you found anything to pinpoint where any of them are hiding out?”

Nope. Just another thing running on my computers. I shake my head. “There’s still been no sightings. But it doesn’t mean there won’t be. Unfortunately, we just have to be patient.”

“Ugh,” she fists her hands, “I’m so tired of being patient. I just want them to die already so I can go home.”

Jumping to my feet, I pull her into my arms again. “I know it’s hard being away from your family, sweets, but we’ll be able to go home soon.” A bright smile lights up her face, chasing away the defeat that was there a moment ago. “What?” I ask, my brows pulling together.

“You said we.”

“Damn straight, we. If you think I’m letting you go that easily, you obviously don’t know me as well as you think you do.”

“Gods, I love you, Arden.”

“I love you, too, sweets.”

Haylee pulls my head down to her level and slants her lips over mine. It’s a slow, languorous kiss that makes my cock harden and my toes curl. There’s no battling for dominance this time. Just us pouring the love we feel for each other into the other.

I could spend the rest of my days kissing my omega. And I plan to. As soon as we get rid of the assholes who keep trying to take her away from me.

Knowing who I am, not one person would be able to tell that, at this moment, I am the happiest man alive. A few short days ago, my princess, my omega, gave me her answer. And fuck me, she said yes. There are so many wrongs I need to right, but there’s something more important first that I need to handle before it becomes a massive problem.

Prior to the attack, the guys were working with Haylee to see if she could withstand an alpha’s bark. There was minimal success, but that success didn’t come without pain associated with it. After all, she’s going against her very nature to give in to an alpha.

Which could present one hell of a fucking problem. She isn’t marked or mated fully to any of her alphas, so she’s still susceptible to any alpha that may command her to do things she wouldn’t. It’s a problem I hope to rectify.

Not long after the attack on Haylee, an email from Haylee’s dad showed up in my inbox. It was forwarded from one of the top drug suppliers in the U.S. There are clinical trials being conducted on a ground-breaking product that could change an omega’s fate in an instant.

Hextraglitheron

With this drug, an omega can withstand an alpha’s bark, saving the omega’s life in the process. There are so many out there to date who are being abused by alphas, all because they think they are entitled to it. But that couldn’t be further from the truth. No omega should ever be taken advantage of. I don’t give a shit who the omega belongs to.

In our line of work, there are two things we don’t do. We don’t take advantage of women, and we don’t hurt children. Granted, there are extenuating circumstances in which it might happen, ergo Bianca, but if she’d never done anything wrong, we would let her be.
