“Locked in a cage,” she said bitterly.

“Better than him being dead.”

“I’m not sure about that,” she countered, shifting her weight from one foot to the other. She didn’t want me so close, but she didn’t make a move to push me away. I was positive it wasn’t fear holding her back. No, she was plotting something.

“Would you like me to kill him?” I questioned, tilting my head. “Because that can be arranged.”

“I have a feeling he’s useful to you until you’ve forced every piece of information you can from his head.”

“True. We haven’t asked him everything yet.”

“And why am I useful?” she gritted out. “You can’t control me by entrancement. Why are vampires so interested in the Shadows?”

I tsked, shaking my head. “You’ve learned enough secrets since being here. I’m not supplying you with any more.”

“I’m not staying in here for two fucking months,” she hissed, her palms slamming against my chest.

I caught her wrists, stopping her attempt to shove me away and bringing her closer instead. She arched her back, trying to put some space between us, but I followed, my hold the only reason she didn’t fall onto the bed.

“Youarestaying here,” I said in a low voice, watching fury slide into her gaze. “But…if you behave, then you can leave this room.”

Rage. Defiance. A touch of fear. They all clouded her features until she decided to plaster a smile on her face. A fake one, but still better than the glare she’d been giving me since I stepped inside.

“I want to leave this room,” she stated.

“Where’s your bag?” I asked. “Pax said you had one, but it’s not in the room you were staying in.”

“Somewhere you can’t find it.”

“Too bad,” I said with a sigh. “Because you aren’t leaving this room until you can use that lotion again.”

“Why?”

“Because I was going to let you work at Impulse again, but not when you smell this delicious. You’ll attract all the vampires.”

She scowled. “There are other humans down there.”

“Who get fed on,” I shot back. “Is that what you want?”

I didn’t know why I was even giving her an option. She was absolutely not going down there when her scent was so strong. I didn’t want any other vampire to taste her.

“I’m not telling you where it is.”

“More secrets?” I shrugged when she didn’t respond. “Fine. Enjoy the room.”

“You can’t just keep me locked in here,” she seethed, her hands clenching into fists.

“Watch me. Oh, and I’m tired of the couch, so I’ll be sleeping in here once morning comes.”

There was a sudden banging on the door before it swung open and Viggo rushed in. He didn’t have to say anything for me to know something was wrong. He was tense, his usual grin replaced with a deep frown.

“We need to talk,” he said, shooting Kali a look. “Not sure if you want her to hear.”

“Does it have to do with her?” I asked.

“Maybe. If it’s her fault.” Distrust lined his features as he stared past me at her. “I have a feeling it is.”

Fuck. “What’s wrong?”
