“Will someone tell me what’s happening?”

“Life seed,” Marrec mutters, hands dropping to my waist. He carefully brushes his fingers over my skin, eyes sparkling. “It is silver.”

My spine rolls with chills. “I don’t have a life seed!”

“It is not yours,” Rem tells me. “It is your child’s.”

Suddenly, a bolt of relief hits me. “I’m pregnant? That’s what this is?”

Oh my god, there’s a freakingbabygrowing inside of me. And it has a light-up seed illuminating through my stomach.

“Oh shit!” Sarah shouts. “Is my stomach going to light up like that?”

“It surely will not!” Rem crosses his arms. “It will be blue, as I am.”

Sarah can’t help but laugh. “We’re going to look like a bunch of multicolored glow sticks?”

“I do not know thisglow stick,” Rem says.

Heavy lips crush against mine, and my feet lift from the ground.

“This is the greatest hour of my life.”

“So you’re happy?”

“I am joyous beyond measure.”

His hands have always felt perfect on my skin, but as if our connection has immensely grown in just a few moments, it feels even more intense. I lean into his hold of my face, resting my cheek against his careful hands.

“We should dip out before they get naked,” Sarah whispers, barely.

“Good call, my wise mate,” Rem says, picking her up. With hands groping her hips, he tosses her over his shoulders and slaps a playful pat on her ass. Sarah yelps but doesn’t protest. “I should like you naked as well. I cannot get the idea of your middle glowing bright with blue out of my mind. I think I shall make it happen, yes?”

“Sweet Jesus,” Sarah says, her voice fading as Rem lets them both out.

Gently, my lips press into the center of Marrec’s chest. We’re going to be parents. A living thing is going to depend on us to grow and survive.

“Maybe we can just cuddle first? I’m a little overwhelmed.”

“I am as well, little blossom,” he says, taking my hands. “How about a warm bath?”

Sighing with delight, I smile. “You always know just what to say and do.”

With sugary scented bubbles and warm water surrounding us, I lay the back of my head gently against Marrec’s chest. Our legs tangle together and his hands frame my glowing stomach.

We’re going to beparents,I think again. It’s an overwhelming thought, but certainly not an unwelcome one. I asked for this, and I don’t regret it, of course. I love the idea of Marrec becoming a father, of becoming a mother alongside him. But wow, knowing and seeing are certainly two different things.

“Should we go see the mender? To check on the baby?”

His thumbs gently rub back and forth against my skin. “If your mind needs to be eased, we may go. But the soul seed will tell us if something is wrong. The light will flicker and your mood will sour. Your health bracelet will also alert you.”

Well, that’s handy.Poking my tongue into my cheek, I ask, “So, there isn’t anything we should worry about?”

“Worry not,” he suggests. “Our daughter will be most healthy.”

I turn, looking at him over my shoulder. “Daughter?”

“Mm,” he agrees. “My soul seed believes it to be, yes. It is, how you say, agut-feeling.”
