He leaned down, and his breath tickled my ear. “Miss me?”

Goosebumps exploded across my skin and my nipples hardened to peaks against the soft cotton of my sleep shirt. I was suddenly very awake.

“Were you gone?” I tried for a teasing tone, but it came out a little more needy than I wanted.

He chuckled, and the throaty noise made my inner muscles clench. “Can’t sleep? You seem stressed.”

“Nothing a little alone time in my room can’t fix.” Ten seconds of spending time with him, and I’d already mentioned sex. That had to be a new record.

“I wasn’t going to mention it, but now that you brought it up…” I could hear the smile in his voice. Inside, I was burning up, embarrassment and need tangled together in a confusing mess.

“See, this is why I get shunned in polite company. I always say the wrong thing or wear the wrong outfit or stick out a little too much.”

His hands twitched on the counter like he wanted to reach for me, but they stayed planted. I wasn’t sure if I was grateful or disappointed.

“Blue, you might be too much for polite company, but you’re just right for me. Polite company sucks anyway. Too much truth left unsaid and too many lies spread around with smiles.”

The world around me slowed for a long beat as I tried to process what he was saying.

Adam lowered his head to nuzzle my neck. “I love the way I see a different color in your hair every time I look at you. Hidden pieces of a rainbow, waiting for me to find them. Like you.”

My heart sped up, and my insides did the goo thing again. He was catapulting us well past friendship, and I didn’t hate it. I wasn’t sure what had happened in the last twelve hours, but Adam wasn’t the patient teacher he’d been the last few weeks while I practiced on him. Playing pretend while secretly enjoying the attention.

“I thought we weren’t doing this,” I said.

His lips brushed the sensitive spot under my ear, making me shiver. “I changed my mind.”

“When?” I asked breathlessly.

“About ten seconds after we made the agreement.”

I turned toward him slightly. “Why wait until now?”

Adam skimmed a kiss across my jaw, and his stubble started a ripple of tingles down my neck to the deepest part of me. “Didn’t want to fuck things up again.”

“Aren’t you worried that’s how it will end?”

“I’m more worried you’ll spend the rest of your life believing you can’t have an orgasm with another person, and I won’t get the chance to prove you wrong.”

“Adam,” I groaned.

His hand slid over my waist and flattened on my stomach, pulling me in until the hard length of him pressed against my butt.

“Think of it as another lesson in what your body is capable of. It doesn’t have to change anything. If I need to back off, I will, but Sunshine, I’m dying for a taste of you.”

I chuckled low. “I’m still not having sex with you, Adam.”

His hand on my stomach slowly closed, gathering the fabric in his fist. “We don’t need to have sex for me to give you an orgasm—if you’ll let me.”

My body was on fire, being consumed from the inside out with wet heat.

“The choice is yours. Are you going to tell me to go back to my room, or are you going to let me show you how much better it can be?”

One time—to satisfy my curiosity. Tomorrow, we could go back to practicing, to convincing myself I didn’t imagine him every time I closed my eyes alone in my room and slid my hand between my legs.

I gathered my courage and turned. “Show me.”

A slow, wicked smile curved his lips. “Good choice. Now spread your legs, Sunshine.”
