“Okay, that was freaky as fuck. Tank was there but not,” Nita gasped.
TANK TOOK A FEW MOMENTS to process what he’d learned about himself and his father. They were Lycans. He wanted to reach to his father and see if he had knowledge of Fenris or not. Stirrings from his two best friends and Nita brought his thoughts to a halt. They were his first priority then his pack.
“Back to the matter at hand and not on what you’ve just been shown. That’s something you all will need to discuss and come to terms with. Let’s all sit down so I can tell you what I know. I also want you to know my Ravens are here. They are ensuring the wards are working around the perimeter. They are aware of the Lycanthrope within Tank. It’s most unusual to have a male shifter who can shift to a wolf plus a lycan. Have any of you seen the Lycan?” Zeus asked.
“Zeus, you do know that Link and Abe can combine into one beast that is twice as large as my Lycan, right?” Tank waited to see how the God responded.
“Of course. I think we’ve all seen that happen.” Zeus waved a dismissive hand.
He held back a smirk. “Dude, they’re Lycanthrope as well...only we had no clue that was the name to call them. Their wolves told mine to stop being such a dick and thinking he was the shit.” Tank lifted Nita off her feet and walked around the group of gawking males to sit in the center of the L-shaped sectional, settling in with her on his lap.
“I am constantly reminded that I’m not the shit, as you say, by my own mate.” Zeus moved to retake his own seat. “Tamara’s brothers, who are more than meets the eye as well, but their story is not mine to tell, had contacted her because their mama had a vision. Years ago, it was Ms. Mejia who had the foresight to move to the same city as my Selena. She upending her entire family from the Bayou because she’d had a dream. Tamara’s entire family isn’t like normal humans as you’ve probably guessed. It was thanks to their friendship I believe, which kept my babygirl safe throughout the years while she lived unaware of her true identity.”
“Wait, that’s it. I kept smelling chicory around the other pack and a similar smell permeated the females like it was a part of them only it was more...sour. And when Bakra was acting funny she had a lingering smell of that same sour chicory on her. There are differences between Hurricane and the others than what I scented on the females. Theirs makes you want to get a cup of coffee. Bakra, she definitely smelled like she’d been dipped in a vat of the female’s perfume.” Nita tried to get up from Tank’s lap with no avail.
He kept a firm grip around her hips, holding her in place. “Nita, what else did you smell when the other males were near?”
She glared at him from his lap, making his lips twitch. Tank wanted to lean forward and claim her sassy full lips with his own just to hear her moan. The fact Zeus was feet from him, and a contingent of Ravens might be outside his door kept him from acting on his instincts.
Their home was actually quite large thanks to Zeus doing his God magic years ago. After their best friend Jaklyn mated two of his Ravens, Zeus had taken it upon himself to offer each of them the opportunity to remodel their spaces. Remodeling was by a wave of the God’s hand, making things supersized and much swankier. Zeus had told them he didn’t like to feel he was in a tin can. They’d seen Jaklyn’s mini-mansion that used to be a normal double-wide trailer and got in line for the God’s remodeling. From there, the huge male had offered to renovate the entire trailerpark. Tank and his two best friends had Zeus as a regular visitor over the years, and each time, he changed or tweaked their home. They never said a word.
“Zeus, after you pimped our trailerpark, my dad said you had Max, Malcolm, or your daughter, I don’t remember which, secure the purchasing of land surrounding ours so that we wouldn’t have to worry about humans encroaching on our territory, correct?” Tank settled his hand between Nita’s thighs near her knee. He didn’t miss the little shiver his action elicited from her.
“That’s correct. They also procured the land that was held by the other pack across the river. Although your father said your pack had no plans to live or move onto the tainted land, we thought it best to purchase it in the packs name so it wouldn’t be an issue at a later time,” Zeus agreed.
Tank watched the God tip his head to the side as if he were having a conversation with someone. Zeus’s long hair brushed his shoulders, but it was his silver eyes Tank watched to gauge whether he was angry or not. The swirling meant look out shit was about to go south, or if they’re straight up silver, like now, meant Tank and the others were cool for the moment. The entire pack did their best to avoid doing anything stupid that would incur the God’s wrath.
“Zeus, do you use a glamour to look young, or is this how you truly appear?” he asked what had been on his mind for years.
“You think because I’m an ancient male older than time that I should look old and wizened like that character in the Potter movies?” he asked.
Abe snorted. “I can’t see you walking around with a wand spouting spells and having a name like Dumbledore.”
“Well, when he gets angry, his hair does turn whiter, and licks of electricity appear to sizzle through him—” Link stopped speaking at the sound of thunder outside.
“Did you do that?” Nita asked Zeus.
Zeus only raised his brows, but Tank could see the mirth in those liquid silver orbs.
“I do not use glamour or magic to appear young. I am a God. We don’t need to use such things to look the way we do. Shifters, Fey, and other ethereal beings were all created with the blood of different Gods and Goddesses. It is why all of you, as well as other beings who are not human, appear different. It’s also why you have longer lifespans. Although, without meeting each being and seeing who and what created them, I cannot say what exactly to expect from each creature. I do know that once a being is touched by evil, like the shifter that was Seamus, the chance of saving them is almost nil. Now you are probably thinking about the demoness females and how they were saved. You see, they were never evil, nor did they choose what they’d been. They’d started out as other and were made what you’d met in the beginning. Some things can be recreated.”
Nita’s deep inhale had them all going silent. “I just thought of why you are here. You don’t think that he...he has found a way out? Bakra isn’t in danger of him, or Cronus is she?”
Tank’s arms tightened around his mate. “There’s no way he could return.”
“Tank is correct to an extent. That bastard is one I don’t believe we’ll ever see again. Cronus, on the other hand is a completely different beast. I have sensed something sinister rumbling from the realm that we send the worst of the worst, and although we’ve pushed Cronus back to the pits of Hell, the power surge from our battle might’ve allowed a crack to form in the veil between Earth and that realm or another.” Zeus got to his feet. “My Ravens are here. I’d like to go meet your half-brother and sister, Tank. Would you like to come with me?”
Tank stood, settling Nita on her feet in front of him. He eyed Abe and Link. “Do you three want to come or would you rather stay here?” He wasn’t going to make decisions without speaking to the other three in their bond.
“We are one and will go as such,” Nita said.
“You will be safe with all of us, Nita. I do not sense evil within them. I know you said there was familiarity with them. Ah, I believe the Mejia Brothers have arrived as well. I think we will have more answers once we all come together. I am here to keep all of them from trying to swing dicks or something.”
Link coughed while Abe slapped his back. Nita buried her face in Tank’s neck, but the way Zeus grinned back at Tank let him know the God was aware of the affect his words would have. Fucker.
Zeus pulled the door open with an unseen hand, floating out the door without once placing his feet on the ground. While he did his best to fit in, speaking with his outside voice, he still wasn’t a fan of touching his bare feet on the ground. That was such a human thing to do.
The God looked over his shoulder, his fingers pointed at his silver eyes, then at Tank.
