Page 14 of Nita's Redemption

Abe gave a wolf-like-snort but did as she instructed. He was crouched at the edge of the woods with trees surrounding him. Above he noticed the slight movement of what appeared to be a large black bird, or better yet, a black raven with blue eyes. ‘Nita?’ he asked.

The enormous raven looked down at him. Her regal head nodded slightly. ‘I flew up here when I sensed the strange aura working its way through the park. I’m not sure if it’s friend or foe. There’s a familiarity to it, but there’s something off about it.’

He didn’t enjoy hearing that she’d sensed the same thing he had or that she hadn’t contacted one of her males. Shit, they weren’t her mates yet, but the bond was there, at least for him, Link, and Tank. If something were to happen to her, the three of them would be devastated.

‘I’m sorry, Abe, I wasn’t thinking about anything but escaping.’

‘Shit, don’t apologize. I understand your life has been rough. I’m sorry for being an ass and not censoring my feelings.’ He needed to get his head out of his ass and quit thinking about himself. Their female lived a life of hell for her entire existence until she’d been rescued by the demoness females.

In the next moment, he felt her presence beside him. The large raven became a tiny black wolf with the same blue eyes of Nita. Abe was pretty sure he’d never tire of seeing her shift forms.

‘Do you want to see the aura I see?’ Her sweet husky tone was like a caress down his entire body, one he couldn’t deny he wanted more of.

He gave a nod of his wolven head, marveling at the difference in their sizes and coloring. While he and Link were more tawny and grey, very similar to Tank, she was tiny with a silky black fur that had his paws itching to feel.

‘Okay, look straight ahead.’ Nita nudged his side with her shoulder as he continued to stare at her instead of where she’d indicated. Dear Goddess, he understood now why all the mated males tended to make fools of themselves.

The dark blue smokey cloud moving in and out as if it was searching for something or someone became clear as day. ‘That’s it right there. Who or what is that?’ he asked in a low whisper.

‘If I were to hazard a guess, I’d say it was one of the females from earlier.’ Nita’s answer didn’t set him at ease at all. In fact, the hair on the back of his neck stood up, making his wolf ease in front of Nita.

‘What do they want with you?’ That was a question he had been pondering since they’d run into the females.

‘I’m not sure, but whatever it is, it’s not good, I’m guessing. That blue aura is dark and murky, which leads me to believe they’re up to something that I want nothing to do with.’ Nita rubbed along his side. Whether it was for comfort or safety, he wasn’t sure. It didn’t matter which, since he was willing to offer her both in spades.

‘I think we need to contact Jaklyn or Selena, maybe Tamara. Her family has connections that might give us some insights into the females.’

‘Are you thinking this has something to do with voodoo?’ Nita asked. It was the question he was leaning toward but hadn’t wanted to verbalize.

‘Tamara’s mama might be able to answer things that we have no clue about. I’m just throwing out ideas here, Nita.’ He hated feeling helpless when it came to his female. Watching that dark cloud snake through the trailer park as if it was looking for something or someone, and that someone was his female, which had his wolf ready to kill.

Again, Nita shifted beside him, running her small wolven body alongside his. He wondered if she was aware of what she was doing. A wolf’s mate soothed the other by touch, just as she was doing. It settled his beast a little.

‘You settle me too, Abe. The three of you do so much for my psyche,’ Nita whispered.

Abe turned his head so that their wolves noses bumped one another. His wolf wanted to howl, but he held the sound back. He sensed Link and Tank near, but even their presence couldn’t stop him from licking Nita. Her little wolf gave a happy yip. ‘You mean the world to me and the others, Nita. Whatever or whenever you have need of us, or when you want us to be with you, we will do whatever we can to ensure we can give it to you.’
