“What the fuck, Tank. Your friend nearly ripped his foot off during a mock battle.” Hurricane’s loud yell followed him while he exited the arena.
“Our female is hurt.” Tank’s explanation was short and sweet. Abe felt his two brothers following his run through the trailerpark. He’d felt Nita’s pain and sensed her essence streaking away shortly after she’d called them to come for the children.
Tank swore as he too must’ve felt Nita’s form fleeing from the pack territory. His pulse raced, his own fear making it almost impossible for him to think straight.
“What the fuck has happened?” he asked a few trailers from theirs. Wind had picked up, but it was blowing the opposite direction of them, which meant they didn’t pick up a scent. His wolf screamed for him to follow the wind.
“The triplets are running this way. Shit, look at their little faces. If Zeus sees them first, he’ll kick our asses. They’re bawling and they aren’t criers.” Tank dropped to his knee with his arms out.
Abe exhaled getting down on his knees next to Link and Tank who both held the three kids between them. Zoe was crying hysterically while the two boys were trying noy to cry and wiping their tears as they tried to explain. “What do you mean it’s your fault? Zoe, Nita loves you and would never be mad at you. Tell us what happened okay and just know that none of us will be upset. We all love you like our own.”
Zoe lifted her face from Tank’s chest, her eyes so full of fear and tears Abe wanted to wrap her up in his arms and reassure her again, but his wolf was growling to go to the wind. Fuck.
“Bakra is sick. That...that’s why we’re here, and so I thought since Nita didn’t tell us that maybe she didn’t know she knew. I thought I’d just look in her mind and find out what we needed and then we could fix Bakra. Only I messed up and I saw...oh my goddess, the things she suffered. I didn’t know, I swear. I didn’t know I’d unlock them from where she kept them. It’s awful, and now I can’t unsee them, and they looked in my mind, and now they know, and please, you gotta find her. She’s in so much pain.” Zoe pressed her hand against her stomach. She looked around frantically.
“Oh no, she’s going to be sick,” Markos said.
Tank stood, turning Zoe so she was faced outward and toward the grass, easily placing her out of harm’s way yet close enough she could throw up without fear of it splattering her or anyone else. Shite, Zeus was going to kill them all.
When the little girl finished, she hung limp in Tank’s arms. Her brothers surrounded them, sending a golden light over their sister and his best friend. Tank gave a small grunt, but then he relaxed and settled down on the ground several feet from the place Zoe had gotten sick.
The sound of pounding feet interrupted his chaotic thoughts between him and his wolf. Jaklyn skidded into view, her hand over her mouth as she whispered ‘thank goddess’. “Selena and her men are on their way. Oh, they’re here. Fuck.”
A burst of silver light that was almost blinding flashed in front of them, sending several trees into the air. Yep, the Goddess was pissed.
“What’s happened to my babies?” Selena asked, her body floating several inches off the ground, silver hair flying all around her as if the wind was part of her.
“Mama, we’re sorry. We didn’t know.” Markos and Maximos stood in front of Tank and Zoe like shields.
Selena waved a hand in a dismissive manner, her eyes swirling silver orbs. “Come here, boys. Malcolm, get our daughter while Max takes care of the boys.”
“Yes, dear.” Both males agreed stepping forward to do their female’s bidding.
“Mommy, wait. I did it. I looked into Nita’s brain and saw when she was little. Oh, mommy, she was so scared and hurt. Why did those people do that to her?” Zoe sobbed, jumping from Tank’s arms, and running to her mother.
Selena looked at Tank’s stricken face and then at his. Abe was sure he had the same defeated look since they were all aware of the horrors their female had faced. Poor Zoe not only knew, but she’d seen it almost like she’d been a part of it if she had abilities like other gods. Poor little thing.
“We felt our female’s pain and came running only to come to a halt when these three ran to us. We don’t know where Nita is. I...I feel her, but I can’t sense her. My wolf keeps howling at me to follow the air.” He shook his head, wishing his wolf made more sense.
Maximos gasped. “She turned into air I think. All of a sudden she was just gone, and then I saw the light flicker by the door. Your wolf must’ve felt her moving in the air or wind.”
Abe groaned and wished he’d listened to his beast. “I don’t know where to look for her. There’s air everywhere, dammit. Sorry, kids.”
“What are you sorry for?” Malcolm asked, holding the two boys.
He waved at the children. “You know, for cursing.”
Zoe laughed then sobered.
“I’m pretty sure these two hold the record on cursing around my babies. Of course, these three also know that just because an adult cusses doesn’t mean they can. Right?” Selena asked Zoe and the boys.
“We’ll just take our brood and go. I’m sure Zeus can help us,” Max said, staring at his Fated Mate with fear.
Selena nodded, rubbing her hand over Zoe’s head. “Yes, we can.”
Zoe’s little head lay on her mother’s shoulder, swirling silver eyes seemed to have a hard time staying open. “But we didn’t find a cure for Bakra.”
“We’ll make sure she’s taken care of too. Just rest, lil bit.” Selena nodded to Abe and the others before the six of them flashed away. Seconds later, the trees that had exploded out of the ground were replaced as if they’d never been damaged.
