Chapter Twenty One

TWO WEEKS LATER...

“Do you think we are in the clear?” Honor asked Tank.

He took a sip of beer, wanting to answer his sister the way a good alpha would, not a male who just wanted shit to go back to normal, or at least as normal as it was before all the shit hit the fan. “Honestly, I don’t know. I feel like we’re being lulled into a false sense of security. However why would whatever had come stalking so hard just poof, go away? It don’t make no sense. Zeus hasn’t returned, so that’s either a good sign, or it’s not. Jaklyn said her males haven’t heard from him either, but they were just called away on some mission with the King brothers.”

Honor held up her hand. “Ah, who are the King brothers?”

Tank chuckled, realizing Hurricane and Honor were too new to have met all the Ravens of War, let alone the demoness females. Shite, his brother, and sister were in for a real treat when or if Bakra and the others decided to come for a visit. Or, Goddess save them, if Akra and her males came to visit, they’d all be in for a wild time. Akra used to be the craziest of them all, but since she’d mated with her two males, she’d become a little more normal. Fuck, he wasn’t sure how anyone could say a demon female mated to an actual demon male and a demi-god was normal. Of course, the demon male wasn’t really a demon. He had been born a human, but a demon had taken over his body and soul for hundreds of years. Yeah, nothing normal there.

“You’re thinking really hard, brother. You might want to talk it out or quit ’cause that vein in the center of your forehead is freaking me out.” Honor ran her finger down over the spot she accused him of having the issue.

Tank shook his head. “You don’t want to hear what I was thinking.” He closed his eyes, working to relax and ease the tension from his mind and body.

“Hey, you two, I think we need to have a night off of pack lands. You know Zeus has protection wards over the pub that several of our packmates work at right? So, that must mean we can all go there and have a good time without worrying we would be attacked. Also, if we go in a large group, then who the fuck would or could hurt us? We’ll just make it a rule that we don’t go anywhere alone,” Samson one of the pack enforcers stated.

The male was almost as big as Tank, but he had shaggy red hair and green eyes. The females loved him for his corny jokes and his big brother attitude. Many times, when females needed an escort into town or further away, he and or one of the other enforcers went with them for added protection.

“That sounds like a fantastic idea. Let’s go run it by your dad, Tank. We were on our way there anyhow, so no need to do the mind link with him. Sometimes it’s better to give him the puppy dog eyes in person.” Nita widened her eyes while pressing her folded hands under her chin. She looked so fucking adorable Tank would give her anything she asked for. Hopefully his father would too.

“Let’s go, my sweet little puppy.” He waved at Samson as they went toward the alpha’s home.

“It was my eyes wasn’t it?” Nita swung their arms out farther, skipping to keep up with him.

Tank looked down at her, falling more in love with their female with every second he spent with her. “I think it’s you, mi sreco.”

Not wanting to see her skipping to keep up with his stride, Tank stopped and offered her a ride on his back. Her little whoop was music to his ears. His two best friends were waiting on the porch to the alpha’s home, smiles gracing their identical faces. They’d been up before him and Nita since it was their turn to train the younger wolves how to hunt and shift without getting stuck between forms. Although most don’t have an issue, if they’re young and faced with danger or an extreme situation, it was possible.

“Hey, how was training with the young wolves?” Nita asked.

Tank helped her slide down, making sure her feet were securely on the deck before letting her go. He slapped palms with each male before they went to the door. Abe wrapped his arm around Nita, telling her about some stories from their day.

“You’re fibbing. There’s no way that can be true. Link, did that boy actually shift only his lower half and get stuck that way until you called his dad to come get him?” Her voice held a hint of disbelief and horror.

“It’s true. Chad’s only six, and he was mad at Stassi, his cousin because she shifted earlier than him. She likes to tease him, and bam, he shifted but only half of him obeyed his command. I could’ve called your dad to help him, of course, but Chad’s dad requested I inform him so that they could work together. After his dad came, Chad was a perfect wolfie.” Abe grinned.

“Come on in, boys and Nita. Lorna made me brownies I might share if you quit yammering on my porch. Damn kids disturbing my movie with all that talking,” Brock muttered.

“He’s really a lot of bark, but his bite is worse.” Tank winked down at Nita as he held the door open.

“Um, aren’t you supposed to say his bark is worse than his bite?” She entered first, staring up at Tank for a moment before walking in all the way.

Tank tucked a lock of hair behind her ear. “My love, I would never lie to you like that.”

The others laughed and made their way into the spacious living area, noses in the air while they inhaled the sweet scent of chocolate. They all loved Lorna’s brownies, cakes, pies, and cookies. You name a dessert, and Lorna could make it better than just about anyone.

Brock waited for everyone to get a plate with a huge piece of brownie before he settled into his chair, piercing Tank with a look. It was a stare that had a way of making Tank squirm when he’d been young. Now those glowing eyes still made him want to spill his guts.
