“Don’t do it, mi sreco. He’s a bottom feeder, but he’s not worth catching a charge, not in the middle of a crowded bar.” Tank took the bottle of beer out of the weasel’s hand.

“I’m going to let you go, you little peckerhead. When I do, I suggest you take your little limp dick self and head on home and learn some proper manners. Understand me?” Nita exerted a little more strength to her chokehold, his red face turning an interesting shade of blue.

“I think he agrees. Don’t you?” Tank wrapped his arm around Nita from behind, his chin resting on her shoulder. “Let him go.”

She heard the alpha order in his tone and couldn’t resist following what he said. One by one, she relaxed her fingers. Luckily for little weasel, his face slowly went back to red then normal pasty. He scurried away, looking back several times while he tripped and fell, got up and fumbled his way out of the pizza shop.

“Are we cool?” Link asked the gathering crowd.

“That was beyond awesome. His daddy is president of the bank, so he thinks he can do and say whatever he wants. Watch your back though. Now he’s probably already on the phone crying to his father, and if you have any loans in town they’ll be pulling them for any slight.”

Nita looked at the big male who had spoken. He wore an apron and a tag that said he was Antonio. The owner she’d guess.

“We own our land and have more money than weasel or his father could ever think to have. If you have any problems, you let me know,” Brock said.

Nita wasn’t aware the alpha had come into town. Sheot, was she going to get her ass handed to her for making a scene? Her mouth opened and closed, words escaping her ability to speak.

“There was something wrong with him. I sensed it as did Hurricane. I think we should call it a night.”

Link and Abe stood behind her, their warmth and love soothing her ragged nerves. Tank eased his arm around her, staring in the direction the male had left. “I sensed an oily anger around him. He had this green and yellow aura, which for a human meant he was extremely sick, or he was tainted. I couldn’t find an injury or illness when I was close to him. After I was able to pinpoint the taint in him, I recognized the same oily presence on several other humans. They didn’t appear to be with him, but they were watching and waiting. When Nita gripped him by the throat, four females got up and walked out. I sent Ledger and Legend out to follow, but as soon as they turned the corner, the males said they lost the trail. Which as we know, humans, even tainted ones shouldn’t be able to just poof into thin air. I’m not sure if they were putting on an expo with that male to see how you or we would react. I don’t like not knowing,” Tank growled.

Brock nodded, blue eyes flared brighter. “Hurricane said his males are returning, but they feel sick. I think we need to have them cleansed before returning home with us. Jaklyn is contacting Zeus. I hate the unknowns that are being presented to us.”

The air shimmered as the humans froze, music stopped. Nita wanted to go over to the pool table and help the female playing against her boyfriend out by pushing several balls in as her ball hits its mark. She shook her arms out, trying to keep herself from doing anything that would warn the others that they’d been fucked with.

“Hello, my friends. I got your request and thought I should be the one to come and help. How are you feeling, Nita?” Zeus floated over the space separating her. His finger brushed her forehead, taking away a pain she hadn’t known was there until it was gone. “Ah, that should make you feel better. Yes?”

She nodded, brushing a tear from beneath her eye. “What was wrong with me?”

Her males jerked as if she’d hit them. “What do you mean?” Were you ill?” Why didn’t you tell us?” The questions came out rapid fire from the three males.

Zeus held up his hand, silencing all three. “She was unaware until I took the miasma from her. See this.” The God held his palm up, showing the image of an orange smoke swirling in his palm.

“Was your wolf unaware it was sick nor your other?” Tank asked, reaching for the weird smoky thing. Zeus closed his hand into a fist.

“You do not want to touch that. To answer you, the three of them had no clue because it was activated only when she was happy. Her wolf and other only come out when she’s in danger. It was truly a very tricky thing that was slipped into her. I know it wasn’t there when she was on Olympus nor the last time I visited. There’s no way she could’ve been infected while on pack lands unless...” Zeus looked at the shifters surrounding him.

“Are you accusing me and my crew of bringing a nefarious illness to my father’s pack?” Hurricane moved forward, his chest bulled out like he was ready to challenge Zeus.

Zeus tipped his head to the side. “Hmm, not you, no. One of you, yes.”

With the snap of his fingers, the bar flashed away along with the humans. Nita had seen the God flash dozens of demi-gods and demonesses from one place to another. She’d seen him create homes, enlarge them, and so much more. So for him to whisk them back to their arena and ensure every wolf was accounted for, she wasn’t shocked. However, the surprise that filled several of Hurricane’s crew didn’t bode well for them.

Zeus moved around the males and females. While shifters were big, much bigger than humans, Zeus was a giant of a man. His towering frame was what you’d think a God would look like. He was all golden skin with long silver white hair and muscles that truly were sculpted by the heavens themselves. He wore a pair of loose white pants and in customary Zeus attire he was shoeless. She’d heard through the grapevine he used to hate to speak out loud, said it was too primitive. He still preferred to float from one place to another since placing his feet on such things as dirt and grass was truly beneath him. She kind of agreed, but her wolf enjoyed feeling things beneath her paws.

Zeus glanced back at her. “Barbarians,” he said with a glimmer in his eyes.

Nita covered her mouth with one hand. “Sorry,” she whispered.

“Were you thinking with your inside voice?” Bakra asked.

“Eep. Don’t do that to me. I think you just scared two years off of me,” Nita swatted at the demoness who appeared from thin air.

“Ssh, I want to hear what he has to say. Anyone got popcorn? The good stuff, that kettle corn that tastes like sugar coated yumminess?” Bakra spun in a circle with her arms out by her side.

“Really? You want food right now?” Zeus asked.

Bakra shrugged up one shoulder. “I was at a fair in somewhere Nebraska. It was delicious, but then I dropped it and came right here to see my peeps. Sooo, anyone got some?”
