Page 69 of Nita's Redemption

Tank grunted, jerking his chin toward the large group of males who looked like they’d just finished playing football, with their jerseys still on. “They’re humans with too much testosterone flowing through them at the moment. They came here hoping to find some pussy and beer, from what I overheard a few minutes ago. That one with the number seventy one on his shirt is the quarterback, and he thinks he’s the shit and can bag any piece of ass he wants. They’ve taken wagers and plan to start hitting on our females any minute.”

“Have you relayed that information to the others here with us?” Link asked already knowing Tank would’ve sent word to everyone if he thought there was going to be a problem.

“Hurricane already felt the vibrations in the males. He and his crew are moving to that side of the room with us on this side. Nita and the females, for whatever reason appear oblivious as did you while you were dancing. Why do you think that is?”

Link jerked his head back, understanding sizzled through his veins. “Fuck, they’re something else?”

Tank shrugged. “I don’t sense them being anything other than human. Yet there is something at play here. Hurricane agrees and thinks he has found the source. Gray and Colt have taken Jaklyn outside because she’s had too much to drink.”

His lips tilted up into a grin. “She never could hold her alcohol.”

They all knew that to be a lie. The best friend growing up had been Jaklyn. Wherever the three of them were, you were sure to find Jaklyn, until she’d found her truemates in Colt and Gray. Link would bet his last dollar that female could still out drink every male in the bar, including Tank and Hurricane who had to be the biggest shifters there. Which meant the two demi-gods who were Jaklyn’s mates must be out doing some reconnaissance of their own.

Chapter Twenty

NITA FELT THE CHANGE in the males, human and shifter. Her wolf came forward, letting her know she was there if needed. Nita already loved the female, but she also was more than aware of her surroundings and the amount of humans that would need to be wiped if any of them should go wolf. The bar had probably seen a shitton of things, but a human becoming a huge four-legged creature surely wasn’t one of the things they’d witnessed. The other part of her that she kept tucked away moved through her, sliding silently next to the part of her that was wolf. She felt the female’s shock and terror. Using her inner voice, Nita tried to soothe both beings.

‘Nita, do you need us?’ Bakra asked on their private path.

Her friend sounded far away, yet she sounded worried.

‘I’m fine for now. Are you alright?’ Nita would hate to find out Bakra was in trouble, and she didn’t reach out for any of her family.

‘Ah, NitaB, you are too good for us demons. I will be fine. It’s you who I’m worried about. You know we all gave you a little of us to heal you. That means you are a little more than shifter and human. However that does not make you a freaky little beotch, and if anyone says differently, you let me know, and I’ll rain down the wrath of a thousand crocodicks on them. Oh, please tell me you’re not in the middle of that and realized I was right, and you know, it’s icky.’ Nita was assaulted with images from Bakra’s memories.

She shoved the female out of her mind, laughing like a loon, which had her males staring at her like she’d lost her mind. If she had to see some crocodile looking males between any females thighs, she’d be the first to sign up for the looney bin. Of course she’d drag that demoness with her, kicking and screaming.

“You look like you need a drink, sweetheart.”

Nita had been hoping the little weasel looking human would’ve kept right on walking when she and Sohan didn’t give him any response at the jukebox. Obviously he’s not the brightest light in the box.

“Nah, I’m good. My males are over there waiting with my drink in hand.” She turned intent on escape, stopping at the feel of his clammy palm landing on her forearm. She looked at his fingers then at his face. “Now, I am sure you don’t mean no harm by touching me unwanted, so I’ll give you a moment to retract your hand from my body. You got like a heartbeat or so before I break those fingers. Trust me, you want me to break them, not my males.” She held up one finger. “See that finger, when it drops, your heartbeat count is done.” Nita let her eyes go back to where he was squeezing her arm a little too hard for her liking. If she’d been human she’d have been in pain, the fucker.

Her finger dropped, his last chance and her last fuck given. He might have thought she would yell for help. Stupid bastard. Nita grabbed him by the throat, tightening her fingers harder than he was holding her arm. “You ready to let go yet?” she asked in a mock whisper.

His fingers twitched as if he was thinking of tightening. From her peripheral, she noticed him raising his other hand. The bottle of beer sloshing over the back of his pasty white skin. Quicker than a snake, she snatched that hand out of the air, holding his arm out to the side. Her strength could easily snap his bones in half. Hell, if she felt a hankering, she could rid his body of the head on his shoulders.
