“You mean the children?” Selena asked.

“The Coven. We were contacted about several females that had gone missing. They were believed to have been taken by a Coven who dealt in Dark Magic. Our maman’s friend is one of the missing as was a younger, very powerful female. She went missing about fifteen years ago from the bayou. You guys were already gone by then.” Hurricane looked at Nita, tilting his head to the side.

“Nita was born here and has no ties to New Orleans.”

“No, it was her mama. We had her mother’s scent, which is similar to hers. Nita’s aura is very different to that of her maman’s. The family felt her maman’s death so we never came searching for her or any child she may have. The reason we are here now is due to the large amount of females who suddenly disappeared from our area. Many of them were friends with our pack but were not aware of what we are. Almost a dozen just up and disappeared. We tracked them to the outskirts of your territory.” Hurricane looked around the large arena, his eyes stopped on Remi.

“We too were called to help find the females. As for us abandoning the pack, you know that’s not what happened. You and the others know our maman has the gift of sight and we as her protectors were to go with her wherever her visions take her. Which we did and we make no apologies for our decisions,” Remi said, his voice gruff like he’d damaged his voice.

“Obviously Missouri is a long way from where Hurricane and the others came from, yet Tank’s mother found her way there so who was to say Nita’s mother hadn’t originally been from somewhere down south.” Link let out a heavy breath.

While Hurricane and Honor were obviously mixed like Nita, they were much lighter than her gorgeous copper colored skin. However he was aware there were many variations in tone, so she could be related or have relation to the males. He wasn’t going to borrow trouble thinking about lineage though. To their knowledge, she had no family other than Jaklyn, and if she did, they’d handle it like they would anything that came their way.

“Well, this was fun. I’m taking my children home and dad,” Selena said, getting Zeus’s attention. “Mom said you are to return to her, or you’re in trouble. I didn’t ask for details because, gross.” Selena moved to Zeus, kissing his cheek after he knelt to place her boys on the ground.

Link shook his head when he noticed the god still hadn’t actually placed his feet on the dirt beneath him, hovering an inch or two from the ground.

Zeus eyed Link, mouthing the word peasant at him. Link rolled his eyes, sticking close to Nita. She’d gone still and quiet both outward and inward. He and the others had agreed to wait until they got home to question her on what was wrong.

“Yo, Tank. Do you and your pack practice here daily?” Hurricane asked him instead of his father.

Brock stood with his arms crossed, a smirk on his face. “As a matter of fact, we do, boy. See you and your pack at dawn if you want to join us. Remi, Leon, you’re welcome to join as well.”

Remi and Leon nodded. “We’ll be here too, thank you, Alpha. Tamara said we could use her home to stay in while we’re here if that is good with you?”

Hurricane gave a derisive snort to which Brock ignored. “That’s fine with me. You two know you’re always welcome here. You also know the big guy would gladly give you your own space too.”

Leon’s face split in a mischievous grin. “Yeah, but we like to mess with our sister by taking all of her things and moving them. She’s got a lot of OCDs that needs addressing.”

“One day, she’s going to kick both of your asses for fucking with her.”

Link and his family didn’t stick around and listen to whatever bullshit their alpha and the others talked about. Nita was acting odd, which had his wolf and the others getting fidgety. Three alpha wolves barking inside three large males didn’t make for a pleasant experience.

NITA BIT HER LIP. IF what Hurricane was implying held any truth, then there might be people who knew about her family and maybe could shed some insight about where her family came from. She could then think about having children of her own with her mates. Memories of what Seamus had said and done to her kept her from thinking of a future filled with children. She would never bring a mongrel into the world until she was sure she wouldn’t create a mutt.

“He’s going to try and best the three of you during training,” Nita blurted, trying to distract her three mates on their walk back through the busy lanes.

Tank gave a grunt, his hand tightening around hers slightly.

“I’m sure the three of you are not worried he can beat you, and I’m not saying I am either. I’m just saying he will do his best to get assigned to spar against one of you.”

The shifter in the pack didn’t have to train every day at the arena, but Brock had set down a mandate that every male and female had to train at least once a week with the Ravens. Nita had a feeling the training arena was going to be a very busy hive tomorrow.

“It’ll be good to see what his crew can do,” Tank said.

Why her stomach did a slow roll, she wasn’t sure. More than likely, it was due to the thought of her males fighting against a group of unknowns. When she’d been a young girl, she’d had dreams. Seamus hadn’t known about her ability to see things that were going to happen in the future through her dreams until she’d woken from a nightmare crying. He’d beaten her almost to the point of death, shoving her outside the trailer and had her chained by her neck with a spiked collar. If she so much as moved the sharp points bit into her flesh. He would lunge at her, making her flinch so the collar would stab her over and over again.

Her hand went to her neck, feeling for the wounds that were no longer there.

“If I could, I’d turn back time, mi sreco,” Tank said, his thumb brushing over the top of her hand.

They didn’t pause in their steady walk back toward their home. If they had been staying at her old trailer, they would’ve already reached it as her small but quaint home was closer to the arena. “It’s in the past, and I never would’ve allowed you or anyone else to suffer in my place.”

Link and Abe both snorted along with Tank. Her mates were too alpha to allow her or anyone they perceived to be in need of protecting to be hurt. Regardless of whether she’d wanted them to step in or not, they’d have done it.

“No reason to think of shit that didn’t happen.”

She glared up at Link who walked to the right of her. His twin Abe was in front of the three of them, making little snarling sounds that was actually sexy as fuck. He looked over his shoulder, winking at her. She flipped him the bird without much heat.
