For an instant her body tensed with shocked realization, and then she barked out a surprised laugh when she remembered I was right. “Will,” she said in her full voice, the word full of amusement mixed with lust.
“Shh,” I said, because it was my turn to quiet her. “I’d like to hear you shout my name, but not quite in these circumstances.”
“Oh my god,” she said, and it was the only thing she managed to say before I kissed her again.
We went deep this time, exploring each other. Her hands moved up the back of my neck and into my hair. I felt that touch all the way down my spine, the sensation of it complete bliss. I ran my hands down the sides of her ribcage, taking in the sexy dip of her waist and the flare of her hips. I smoothed the fabric of her skirt over the tops of her thighs.
Her body tensed a little and I paused, lifting my mouth from hers. “Do you want me to stop?”
Her fingers tightened their grip in my hair, a reaction that I was sure was involuntary. “Don’t stop,” she said, her voice dark, as if she was begging. “Just…no further.”
I flexed my palms in place against the tops of her thighs. “Just this far, then.”
Luna didn’t want a quick fuck against a closet wall. Neither did I, honestly. Sure, the beast in me wanted to lift her skirt and do depraved things that made her scream. But this was Luna. If I ever had her, it wouldn’t be like this. It didn’t need to be hearts and roses—my fantasies were definitely more filthy than that—but it would be in a situation where I could take my time. A situation in which she could make a lot of noise.
So we tangled together again, and I kept my hands to the tops of her thighs, her hips, her waist, her ribs, learning the shape of her. Then I cupped her jaw, tangling my fingers in her silky curls while she ran her hands down my body, sending electric sensation everywhere. Her palms moved over my back, my stomach, then down to my hips. She slid her hand under the hem of my sweater and the tee I wore under it, and when her fingertips brushed my bare skin, I nearly fell to my knees.
I broke the kiss. “We have to stop,” I gasped, my control finally starting to fray.
“I know,” Luna said. She moved her fingertips off my skin, taking pity on me, but she pressed her body harder against mine. She could definitely feel how hard I was, because there was no hiding it. The words seemed to tumble out of her without thinking. “You feel so good.”
“We have to stop,” I said again, but neither of us wanted to be the first to let go. My hands were still tangled in her hair. I brushed my lips against her temple, her cheek, the corner of her mouth. I said it a third time, hoping it would take. “We have to stop.”
“Yes.” She sounded miserable about it. “We have to stop.”
“Right now.”
“Right now.”
Neither of us moved. I nuzzled her cheek, and she sighed, her breath against my skin.
Downstairs, a door closed. We both went still, breathing in sync. The front door closed.
We were silent for a moment. There was no other sound. Reggie had left.
“It seems,” I said slowly, reluctantly, “that I can make my escape.”
Luna let out a shuddering breath. “Yes.”
“Right now.”
“Right now.”
Still, neither of us made a move. I breathed her in. I didn’t know what this was, what this meant. I couldn’t think about it. I only knew I might not get another chance.
But Luna was my employee, and this wasn’t happening, not today. It was over. I let her hair go and dropped my hands slowly. I leaned back. I said the words, though they dragged painfully out of me, stinging my chest.
“All right,” I said. “I’ll go.”
SEVENTEEN
Luna
That night, I lay on my bed, on top of my covers, in my pajamas, staring at the wall. I wasn’t freaking out. I couldn’t think anything at all. In my mind, Will was still kissing me. He’d never stopped. That was how good it had been.
The first text was from Katie. It was only two words: Girl WHAT. The family grapevine was doing its thing. Katie had probably heard a broken-telephone story about me coming home drunk on a Sunday.
I would talk to Katie, but not right now. I couldn’t talk to anyone right now. I replied with a shrug emoji.
