“No, it’s fine.” Honor redid Silver’s button on her jeans. “I don’t know when I turned into this person. Well, that’s not true. It was right when I met you.” She laughed a little and buttoned up Silver’s shirt. “I can’t stop thinking about sex now. I was late for a meeting on Wednesday because I was sitting in my office thinking about that text you sent me mentioning your mouth.”
“Oh, that text?” Silver teased.
“Yes, that text. You’re not going to make this easy on me, are you? I can see your nipples through the shirt.”
“And whose fault is that? They weren’t hard a second ago.” She took Honor’s hand. “Are you ready? We’re going to be late if we don’t leave now.”
Honor looked down at Silver’s nipples, which were obviously visible now, and sighed. Silver laughed and pulled her out of the apartment.
???
“Thank you,” Silver said to the waitress and handed her their menus. “I’ve never been here. It’s supposed to be good, though. Dev said she took Brandi here for their two-year anniversary.”
“I like this.”
“Like what?”
Honor took a drink of her wine, making Silver wait for it.
“I feel like we’ve switched territories somehow. I’ve been in yours since we met, and now you’re in mine.”
“Your territory is a-little-over-casual American eateries?”
Honor laughed and said, “No. I’ve been on a lot of first dates. My guess is that you haven’t.”
“No, I haven’t,” Silver shared. “How am I doing so far?”
“Good, Silver,” Honor said with a smile. “This isn’t a test, though. You know that, right?”
“It kind of feels like an important thing, though, Honor. Like, if I can’t get this dating thing right, would you stick around?”
“But it’s a first date. Most of those are awful.”
“I’m aiming for way better than awful, babe,” Silver told her and sipped at her own wine.
“What exactly are you aiming for?”
“Right now? A second date.”
“I’m being serious, Silver.”
Silver took a deep breath and said, “Okay. We should talk about this, right? I can’t see anything happening tonight that’s going to keep me from wanting another date with you, so let’s talk about it.”
“It? Sex?”
“No, everything,” she replied, leaning over the table. “And forgive me here because I’ve never done this. I had a girlfriend that I tried to talk into something, but you and I started with that. I’ve never had the rules conversation.”
“Rules? Oh.” Honor leaned forward, clasping her hands over the table. “Okay. Well, what are the rules?”
“They aren’t things I tell you – we come up with the rules together.”
“The rules for us being an us?”
“If that’s what you want to call it, yeah.”
“Okay. Well, I’ve never done this either, obviously, so can you at least get us started, and I’ll add what I can?”
Silver reached for and took one of Honor’s hands, laying her own on top of it.
