The one thing he did know was she was never leaving him. He’d heard about this type of situation from Macy and Nick. It helped him to know he wasn’t the only one, but it was still slightly overwhelming.

It was like their souls meshed, and she was now a part of him in a way that would forever change him. He would have thought it would make him a weaker man, but what he’d seen of his friends and their relationships, the women only made them stronger and more content than they ever had been before. When he finally came to terms with his future, he closed his eyes and slept.

He woke first the next morning and exhaled when he felt her still in his arms. She had tried to move away from him during the night a few times, but he always brought her back against him where she belonged.

His phone rang, making him curse. He carefully moved away from her, sat on the side of the bed, and reached for the phone.

“What?” he snapped.

Nick chuckled. “I thought we were working out today, butthead.”

Jake ran a hand down his face. “Yeah. I’ll meet you at your house in twenty minutes.”

“Sounds good.”

Jake turned off his phone and twisted to see the blanket had been shoved down, showing him the smooth skin of her back and the small, delicate vertebrae. He sometimes forgot that she was tiny.

He wanted so much to roll her onto her back and fuck her again, but she’d been so tight the night before she was bound to be a little sore this morning. The best thing he could do for her was give her time to rest. He’d check on her when he got back, and then they’d have the talk that kept getting interrupted.

Jake stood, walked into his closet, pulled on some workout clothes, and left the condo. Macy was just getting on the elevator.

“Just in time. Link and Caden have already left,” Macy said.

Jake stood silently.

“Anything you want to talk about?” Macy asked.

Jake glanced at him. “Maybe later.”

“Is it about Hannah?”

“Yeah.”

“Man, I know how you’re feeling. It’s overwhelming because we’re not used to feeling this depth of emotions, but I guarantee you it gets easier, and it is so fucking worth it. I can’t imagine my life without Cat.”

Jake’s shoulders relaxed. “Thank you. That helped.”

“You know I’m here if you need to talk.”

Jake smiled and felt calmer than he had since he found Hannah.

The guys worked out for close to two hours. They put in more time since they had missed the day before because of the lost little boy.

When Jake walked into his condo, he couldn’t wait to see Hannah. It amazed him how much she was on his mind. What surprised him the most was that it didn’t bother him. Thinking of her made him happy.

When he got to the bedroom, he saw the bed had been made, and she was gone. He got pissed at first but then realized she had no idea where he’d gone or when he’d get back unless she talked to Cat. He then got a whiff of himself and was glad she wasn’t there. It might have just sent her running.

After a shower and getting dressed in faded jeans, a t-shirt, and boots, he made himself a cup of coffee and a piece of toast. He took them with him as he tried to track down Hannah.

It was a lot harder than it should have been. He went to Macy’s, hoping she would be with Cat, but Macy said he thought they were in the office working on a program. When he got to the office, he found just Cat working at the desk.

“Hey. Do you know where Hannah is?”

Cat looked up and shook her head. “No. I thought she was going back to the condo.”

He wiped a hand down his face in frustration. “If she comes back here, tell her I’d like to see her.”

“I’ll tell her.”
