He tipped his head forward. “I know. That’s why I’m not spanking you.”
Her mouth dropped open. “Spanking … you can’t do that?”
His head tilted to the side. “Really? Why?”
The thoughts in her head scrambled. “I … well, because … I’m an adult.”
“You’re also a submissive, and they get punished if they’re naughty.”
The wheels turned viciously in her head, trying to find the words she needed, but his voice was enough to make her body soften and her desire to rise, distracting her. A touch of fear grew when she realized she had no experience dealing with a man like him. She quickly stepped back but stopped suddenly when his eyes narrowed on her. She stiffened when he stood and took a few steps toward her.
He cupped her chin. “Get in bed. I’ll be right there.”
She watched him walk away and swallowed when he closed the bathroom door. When she heard the shower turn on, she rushed to get into her nightgown and panties. She wanted as much protection from him as she could, and it was the only thing she could think of doing besides running.
Chapter Fifteen
Hannah was in bed with the blanket tucked up under her chin when he walked out. Her breath caught in her chest. He was the most beautiful man she’d ever seen. He was tall and muscular, with tattoos over his body, and God, his hands were big and strong, with the veins and tendons protruding and the calluses she could see. She dreamed of having those hands on her.
It took her a moment to realize he’d dropped the towel to the floor, turned off the light, and slid into bed.
“Wait … you’re naked.”
He chuckled. “Yes. I usually sleep naked.”
“But you didn’t last night or the night before.”
“I was trying to make you comfortable. But now I want you to get used to me this way.”
“Why?”
“I want you to feel relaxed around me.”
“Jake, I’m never going to be like the women you’re used to.”
He lifted his head and balanced it in his hand. “What does that mean?”
Her hands tightened on the blanket. This was not a discussion she wanted to have with him, period, much less in bed.
“Hannah,” he warned.
“I see the women you’re used to in the club, and I’m not even in their stratosphere.”
“Explain.”
“I’m never going to be like them. I’m nothing. I’m a nobody.”
“You’ve said this before. Where are you getting this bullshit from?” he asked.
She could hear the anger in his voice but didn’t know how to deal with it. “I’ve been told that my whole life. My own mother didn’t want me, and instead of dropping me at a hospital, she put me in a dumpster.”
Dammit. She never wanted to talk about that. It was over and done with, and there was nothing she could do to change it.
“Jesus Christ.” He reached for her, making her cringe.
“No.” She put her hands out. “I don’t want to be touched.” She scrambled, trying to get out of the bed, but the blanket tangled around her, preventing her from moving.
“Oh, no. You’re not going anywhere.”
