“How much could you fit into it?” he asked.
“I have a few pairs of jeans and shirts. Enough underthings to last a week and one pair of shoes I always wear.”
Jesus. She thought that was enough? He’d met women who had a closet full of clothing and still wanted more.
“It’s like I said earlier. You’re going to be easy to please.”
She looked away. “I won’t be here. In fact, I should be on my way when Macy gets back with my bag.”
“What would you say if I told you I’d like you to stay here with me?” he asked, watching her carefully.
“Oh, I couldn’t take advantage of you.”
He cupped her cheek in his palm. “Sweetheart, you’re not. You’re actually going to help me.”
Her face brightened. “Really? How?”
He had to bite back a smile at her interest. She was more submissive than most women who came to the club. Her wanting to be helpful told him how sweet she was. He’d think about it more later, but he wondered how this woman could have been on her own.
“Do you have a family?” he asked.
Her eyes darkened with sadness before she shook her head.
The door opened, and Cat walked in, followed by Macy. Hannah gasped and tried to stand.
“Easy, he’ll bring it over.”
He watched her hug the backpack and close her eyes.
“Thank you,” she murmured to Macy.
“I’ve got a few outfits I think will fit you,” Cat said.
“Oh, but…”
She stopped talking when Jake squeezed her hand.
“Say thank you.”
She stared at him for a moment before looking at Cat. “Thank you.”
Cat smiled. “You’re welcome. That’s what friends do.”
Jake’s heartbeat spiked when a smile grew over Hannah’s face. Damn, she was a beautiful woman, but when she smiled, a light shone from her eyes, making her look gorgeous.
“If you guys don’t need anything, I’d like to take Cat back to our place.”
Jake shook his head. “No. I think we’ll be fine.” He turned to Hannah. “Do you have any objections?”
She looked startled and then shook her head.
“If you need me, I’ll just be two doors down. Have Jake call Macy,” Cat said.
Jake saw the subtle change when Hannah relaxed and didn’t show the anxiety she did a moment before.
Jake waited until the door closed. “Would you like to watch some TV?”
“Sure.”
