“Because I’m the one that tore apart their throats.”

Walter screamed.

“Now, I’m putting you there with them, where you belong.” Jacob almost grinned before he turned into his wolf.

The man screamed and started to crab-crawl back as fast as possible. Jacob gave him a minute to feel a fraction of the terror his family had caused several women before he pounced. He didn’t go right for the throat but tore him apart piece by piece wanting to give him the maximum amount of pain before the man died.

Jacob shook himself, turned back into his human, and stood over the bits and pieces of an evil human that should have never been born. He turned back to the others.

“Here you go,” Ryker said and threw his ripped shirt at him to clean up a bit. Hunter handed him a set of new clothing, and he dressed and then pulled on his boots.

Fortunately, their footwear was always left intact because wolves’ paws were smaller than the men’s feet, so they slipped right out. He was glad about that because his boots were expensive.

“Are you ready?” Ryker asked.

He nodded. He’d shower when he got home. He thanked the rest of the men and slid inside his brother’s truck.

Neither said anything, and he was glad his brother gave him time to compose himself.

They pulled up to the house and got out. Ryker slapped his shoulder.

“Good luck. Call if you need anything.”

“Thank you,” Jacob said, walking toward the home he was making with Sage.

He locked the front door behind him before he made his way into their bedroom. His first look at her made his knees so weak he had to grab onto the doorjamb. She was naked and lying on her stomach asleep. The blanket had been pushed down enough that he could see the top of her ass. What he could see on her face showed there was no blood and only a little swelling on her forehead that would be gone by morning.

To think that he might never have been able to love her and have children like they had discussed made him want to tear the man apart all over again.

Jacob didn’t know if he’d ever let her out of his sight again, and he knew it would take a lot to let go of the fear and pain of the day. He’d do what he needed to feel she was safe and try not to cross a line that would drive her crazy.

Chapter Twelve

Jacob walked into the bathroom and quietly closed the door before stripping his clothes off and jumping in the shower. He washed quickly. His wolf was howling inside of him, needing to be deep inside of their mate to cement their bond that had been tainted.

After drying himself, Jacob closed the drapes, pulled the blanket off of her, and let his eyes roam over the woman who had taken his heart and soul and whom he knew would give him many children in the future. He crawled to lay next to her and started kissing the side of her neck. It seemed to take forever for her to wake up.

“Mmmm. You’re home,” she said as she stretched.

“Yes, Mate. I am home.” He ran his hand up and down her back before sliding in over her ass and between her legs to find she was wet and ready for him as always.

Sage pushed against his hand, trying to make him go into her. “Are you mad at me?”

He kissed her shoulder. “I’m trying to find the words to describe how I feel, but there are so many emotions that it’s a jumble. The first and foremost feeling is terror.”

She leaned up, braced herself on her elbow, and kissed his cheek. “I’m so sorry.”

“I know. I can feel your regret, but is it enough to keep you from doing something like this again?”

Her mouth dropped open. “Of course. I didn’t do this on purpose.”

“I know that, but do you realize you found yourself in trouble by not listening to me? If he’d been able to take you away before I got to you, there’s a chance I might not have been able to find you in time. That one decision could have been our death sentence because I couldn’t live without you.” He tried to rein in his anger, but the more he thought about losing her, the crazier he got.

Sage grabbed onto his arm. “I know that. That’s why I fought so hard. I was afraid for myself but terrified of what it would do to you.”

He closed his eyes and pressed his forehead against the side of her head. Fuck. He thinks he can’t love her anymore, and then she says or does something that makes him a liar.

“I need to check you over, and then I need to fuck you until we’re both unconscious. Will you be able to handle that, Mate?”
