What had my heart skipping a beat was the intense emotions in his deep emerald eyes, telling me heard the last part of the conversation with Eva.
All the spit in my throat dried up. The unexplainable draw for him compelled me to go to him. The need to touch him, feel his arms around me.
He moved forward and then nodded hello to Eva who seemed surprised to see him.
“How’s the fitting going?” he asked.
“We haven’t gotten to it yet. We were going to have some snacks first.” I gestured to the coffee table with the spread of sandwiches, cookies, and pastries. “Want to join us?”
He shook his head, but that pulse of energy between us surged, making a tingle slide down my spine. “I just came to tell you that tomorrow when you go to your photoshoot, you will have a security team with you. They remain within eyesight at all times. No exceptions. Your safety comes first.”
I nodded. “Okay.”
“I’ll meet you once I finish up with my meetings.”
Of course he would.
I guessed I won some and I had lost some.
“Okay.”
“Enjoy your snacks, ladies.” Damon turned and headed down the hallway.
Once he was gone, Eva released an exaggerated breath. “Well then, I believe it’s time to focus on my wedding gown. Your love life is something you’ll figure out sooner or later.”
“I’m not sure if that is a good or bad thing.”
“Neither do I.”

“What’s up with you checking your phone?” I asked Carla Justine as I came out of a fitting room and sat in the chair near the makeup artist’s station.
From the moment I arrived an hour ago, all Carla had done was message back and forth with someone on her phone.
Regina Toro, a designer who we expected on set at any moment, despised anyone who used any form of electronics while on the clock. In her mind, if she was paying for our time, she wanted all of her attention.
She tended to be a hardass, but I got her point.
As one of the top designers in the world with celebrities, royals, billionaires, and the like begging for her to create custom pieces for them, she could do whatever the hell she wanted on set.
Thankfully, she liked me. However, her sense of humor was something I questioned. I glanced to my side and caught sight of an outfit resembling an old-school-style jailhouse uniform with stripes.
Hilarious, Regina.
“It’s nothing. My mom is having issues with my sister. I’m playing interference.” Carla tucked a loose strand of her blue-streaked hair behind her ear, glanced at the two female security personnel from the team Damon assigned to me, and tucked her mobile into the back pocket of her jeans.
“I’m usually the troublemaker fighting with my mom, so I’m no help to you. My older sister Eva gets to play your role.”
I couldn’t help but smile, thinking about how much I enjoyed my time with her yesterday.
Even if the conversation about our relationship was the last thing I wanted Damon to walk in upon, it had definitely worked out in my favor. He seemed to have loosened up about being up my ass at everything.
Now, I wouldn’t jump ahead of myself and believe I had free rein to go any place I wanted, but work wise, Damon seemed to have accepted we both had demanding careers that required us to be apart.
The bodyguard situation wasn’t new to me, so I could live with it. However, this crew was a hell of a lot more intense than the ones Lucian assigned to me.
“It’s all good.”
