“Carter knew me.”
I paused. “Babe, I don’t have any right to ask, but I’m going to because I need to know. So the band can protect you. Did you sleep with Carter?”
She sighed and looked away. “Does it matter if I actually did or if people just assume I did?”
“I guess not, but it helps the band to have the information.”
“The band has to know? It can’t be just you?”
I reached across the table and took her hands in mine. “There’s nothing to be ashamed of. Do you know how many women I’ve slept with? How many one-night stands I’ve had? How many groupies I could notch my bedpost with?”
She looked away. “We had a threesome. Me, him… and Larry.”
“Okay. I have to tell Dorian, so she can be prepared in case that gets out. Are there pictures?”
Her cheeks turned pink. “There might be. I’ve never seen any, but it’s possible. Larry was… into that.”
“And you weren’t.”
“I am not. Just for the record.” Her eyes met mine, this time with no hesitation.
“Understood. It’s not my thing either, to be honest.”
“I’m glad. It’s non-negotiable for me.”
“That’s fine.” I let go of her hands as our breakfast arrived. “Look, as far as this thing with us goes, you have to guide me, Dev. I’m a pretty open book when it comes to dating. If I’m involved with someone, I’m all in until either I decide it’s not working or we decide we’re not on the same page or something.”
“We can’t…” She bit her lip. “I’m not ashamed of anything we’re doing. But I feel like we need time. If we decide it’s going to be serious, we can go public. If it’s just going to be a sex thing that burns itself out relatively quickly, I don’t need the pressure or the bad press.”
I hated the idea of hiding something like this, but I understood where she was coming from.
“So you don’t want the band to know either.”
“I’m guessing they’re going to figure it out, but let’s let that happen organically.”
“Dorian needs to know.”
“No one needs to know. What we do is our business.”
“That’s not how this life works, babe. I’ll do whatever you want, but I’m telling you—secrets have a way of blowing up in your face when you’re a celebrity. And whether you believe it or not, you are now.”
“What about if we just keep it quiet until we go on tour? I’d like to get through rehearsals and the holidays without a ton of conjecture about how many Onyx Knight dicks I sucked to get to where I am.”
“All right.” I paused. “So… can I ask you a question about the threesome. Not about you, so much as Larry.”
She nodded, popping a piece of bacon in her mouth. “Oh, boy. Here we go. Sure. Hit me.”
“Did he have sex with Carter? Like, you know, anal?”
She chuckled. “No. They did oral, on each other and me, but no anal.”
“Carter was PAN, so that doesn’t surprise me. I never got those vibes from Larry, though.”
“He wasn’t. But he was a fame junkie. Anything he could do that would get him close to a celebrity, he was all in.”
“Gotcha.” I honestly had no issues with the fact that she’d slept with Carter. He’d been a sweet, funny guy who loved women. And men. It was no surprise he’d been attracted to Devyn. I wanted to ask her for more details, because it would be something new about Carter that I hadn’t known before. She seemed uncomfortable, though, so I’d save that for another day.
“So, you want me to be your dirty little secret?” I asked after a few minutes.
