Vanna appeared at the end of the hall and waved at Robbie. Natalie, George, and Victoria were with her.
“I am being summoned,” Robbie said.
“I will be around as soon as the nanny comes to collect this little bug.”
“Alright, Papa. see you soon. Get that speech ready.”
Robbie trotted towards his wife who toted the State Diadem atop her blonde head. Vanna was full of pride on this evening, just like her husband. She should have been. Her children were the next to take on the burden of this life. To the credit of their parents, they were doing a wonderful job. Keir was proud of his family. His four children grew into good people. They were good spouses and three out of four were parents with happy, healthy children. It was a pleasure watching them grow.
It was bittersweet. He was proud but missed his wife. She would have loved to usher them into adulthood at their first state occasion. She wouldn’t be there, but Keir kept her in his heart. She was there in spirit. He’d dance with his granddaughters, watch his kids and grandkids enjoy the evening. He would be satisfied. He knew that, somehow, Margaux looked down on them beaming with pride.
“Magpie,” Keir said, “we did a banner job. Here’s proof.”
