Titus breaks away, his eyes on my lips as his mouth pulls into a lazy smirk, and just as I am about to match his smile, his lips are back on mine in soft butterfly kisses.
“This was the perfect goodbye,” I whisper between his kisses.
“This isn’t goodbye Twilight,” he mumbles, cupping my face once more, holding me in place. “I promise, this isn’t goodbye.”
“You promise?” my voice trembles, the thunder filling the warm evening, a sticky heat coating me.
“I promise you.”
CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO
TITUS
My fingers are laced through hers, the tingles that spread from my fingers to my hands, to my arms, to my chest and lastly… to my heart. My heart races under my skin, beating through my chest so hard as it thumps against my ribcage.
We walk in silence, but inside every fiber of my body is singing in a harmonious melody. As we round the corner, the dusk is setting in and it’s my favourite time of the day. Twilight.
Our fingers gradually loosen from their tight links before they’re just occasionally brushing until we’re too far apart and I instantly miss her touch. Like an addict craving another hit. I crave her.
Constantly.
My skin itches.
My blood burns.
My mouth dry.
As soon as we’re apart, I need her. The want is too much, and I count down the seconds until I am with her again, getting my fix.
We walk into the back of the house and through the quiet kitchen when I feel my phone buzz in my pocket. I ignore it until we are upstairs, tucked away and hidden from everyone’s watch.
My hand scoops hers back up, bringing it slowly to my lips and I place a soft kiss on the back of her hand, her cheeks blushing, and I have come to realize how much I love when she blushes. Her freckles are dotted all over the bridge of her nose, her cheeks and some scatter up to her temples and all I want to do is kiss each and every one of them until my lips can map out every mark on her beautiful skin.
“Titus I’m scared,” she admits, and I can hear the pain in her voice and fuck, my heart breaks that she is even in this situation.
“Baby,” my voice is soft as I drop her hand from my lips and cup her face, holding her so she has no other option than to let her beautiful, yet unique eyes burn into mine. They glisten with unshed tears, and I don’t want her to cry anymore, I don’t want her father to cause any more pain to her than what he has already caused.
“I am awaiting Nate to call me back, and I promise you…” I stumble over my words, my heart thrashing in my chest as my eyes volley back and forth between hers. “I am not leaving you here.”
I edge closer, my lips slanting over hers when I hear the sharp intake of breath that leaves her just as my lips cover hers.
“I promise Twilight,” I whisper as I break away, “trust me…”
Her eyes flutter shut, a lone tear rolling down her cheeks as she does and my thumb is there, wiping it away and she nods, my hands still holding onto her face.
“Go into your room, pack a small bag of clothes and I’ll leave a suitcase outside your door…”
She blinks up at me, her brows furrowing. “A suitcase?” she repeats, her voice quiet.
“Yes baby, I need to get you out and not cause any alarm. I only have tonight, I can’t risk leaving it any longer.”
She nods, staying silent.
“Pack what you need and leave the bag aside, then your father will think I am leaving with my suitcase and bags…”
“It won’t work,” she whispers against my lips.
“Trust me Amora…”
