Page 54 of Doctor I Do

But a couple of minutes later, he brings over snacks and my tea. I grab the cup from his outstretched hand, and I’m careful not to touch him, but, of course, it’s impossible when the cup is a lot smaller than our two hands.

I ignore the sparks and say, “Thanks.”

He offers me cookies, but there’s no way I could eat another thing. I decline. But when he sits beside me and munches on one, my mouth hangs open, and I sneer. “Unfair.”

He looks at me, waiting for an explanation.

“You can eat desserts and cookies and still—” I purse my lips and hold what I was going to say, because he will know I’ve noticed how fit he is.

“Still what?”

He pushes with humorous eyes. I can’t help but roll my eyes and wave my hand over his body. “You still look great.” I sound annoyed, even to my own ears.

“Noticing me, are you, fiancée?”

“No, I just need your metabolism.”

He eases back into the sofa to get comfortable, and he taps my feet, so I go to move my legs off. “No. Leave them.”

I pause and look at him, puzzled.

He has no tea, whereas I’m clutching my hot one so I can’t fight off his hands that are grabbing my feet and laying them in his lap.

My pulse picks up, and when he begins to massage the arch of my feet, I can’t help the moan that slips.

I’m appalled and embarrassed, which I never thought possible. But with Alex, everything is possible.

“Just lie back and sip your tea. Let me ease some tension.”

I follow his command. I can’t argue with him when the strokes on my feet feel incredibly good.

I sip my tea and watch my show.

“What shit are you watching?” he teases.

“I don’t know, some renovation show,” I mumble between sips.

“More like reality.”

I can’t argue there, but it's more like a mash-up, and I explain that to him. He just nods, and we fall into a comfortable silence. Him massaging both my feet, and me sipping my tea and watching TV. As soon as I finish my drink, I put the cup down and rest my head on the arm of the sofa.

Somewhere along the line, my eyes grew heavy, and I must have dosed off. I’m being lifted from the sofa, and when my eyes fling open, I’m back up next to his face as he walks.

“I’m awake. Put me down, and I’ll walk.”

“It’s okay, I can do it, and hey, think of it as more practice.”

I slump down, too exhausted to care.

His scent this close is so heavenly, I just soak it in. Up the stairs, I know we are in my room, and he lowers me down.

His hands stay touching my waist and mine on his shoulders. The erratic beating of my heart feels like it’s about to come out of my chest. Everything around us drowns out, and my earlier sleepy state is now the opposite.

He’s staring down at me intently, before he slowly and seductively gazes over my body. When he meets my eyes again, my blood is pounding in my ears. Then he leans in, and the emotions around us are melting my resolve.

I wonder what he’s thinking, but before I get a chance to ask, he pecks my lips with soft, slow kisses. Not once, no, not twice, no, three times before he moves his lips to my hair, whispering, “Goodnight.”
