“You look incredible,” he rasps. His hungry eyes drop slowly over my body.

I smile proudly at his words. But I can’t stop the blush that’s creeping up my neck and hitting my cheeks.

My gaze runs lazily over him, and I can’t help the shiver of a thrill that runs through me. The black suit with no tie and a crisp white designer shirt. His beard is trimmed and his dark hair is in that finger-swept wave I love.

“Well, don’t you look handsome,” I breathe.

He rubs his hands together, and a grin forms on his face. He likes compliments. Scratch that. He loves compliments.

“Thanks, but not only do you look beautiful, you smell tantalizing.”

“I probably sprayed a little too much.”

“It’s never enough. It’s so perfectly you.”

My heart catches in my throat.

“How did you know what my favorite perfume was?” I whisper.

“I went to the department store and described it to the assistant and smelt a bunch until I found it.”

“You went to the store?”

“For the perfume. Yeah, so?”

How doesn’t he see how sweet that is?

How non-playboy an act like that is?

My mind is spinning.

“Are you ready?” He moves to me and holds out his elbow.

I nod, taking his arm.

As he drives us to the restaurant, he tells me it’s a local Greek place that is always booked, but he’s friends with the owner. His excitement about how good the food is makes my mouth water. The butterflies in my stomach today made me too nervous to eat.

He opens my car door, and I again loop my arm through his elbow. Inside, we are ushered to our seats.

The city views are beautiful from here. It’s the perfect backdrop for dinner.

He shrugs out of his jacket, and I try not to let my eyes linger too much over how good he looks. The waiter takes it, and we sit.

“Did you want to share a bottle of wine?” Alex asks. “Or would you prefer something else?”

“Sharing a bottle sounds nice.”

He nods and orders the wine.

“Doc, I’m so glad you finally took my offer.”

My eyes flick to the male voice. This must be the owner and Alex’s friend.

“Hey, Gary.” Alex stands and shakes his hand. “I wanted to take my fiancée Tahlia out.”

I smile when he says it, and Gary’s face lights up. It’s weird hearing Alex refer to me as his fiancée. Not in a bad way. More of a surprise still. I don’t have long to think about it, because Alex faces me, and I know I’m about to be formally introduced.

“Hi, I’m Gary. It’s so nice to meet you. I’ve been telling your man to come here for months as repayment.”
