I’m silent. I’m too tired to argue. He climbs the stairs, and I relax completely, enjoying being in his arms again. But smelling his woodsy aftershave is playing tricks on me, causing me to desire things with Alex.

He takes the steps to my room and pauses inside, slowly lowering me down. My feet find the plush carpet, and I wobble, but he holds my arms until I find my working feet. Tipping my head back, I stare into his blue eyes and his handsome face hits me full force. I need to move back, put some distance between us. Being close to him and having his arms hold me tenderly is messing with every thought I had of him. He’s Mike’s brother, for God’s sake. He doesn’t want me.

I force my feet to step back, and I offer him a genuine smile. “Thanks for helping me upstairs.”

Once he is out of reach, I tuck my hands under my arms, suddenly cold without him holding me.

“Let me run you a bath; it will help you wind down before you slip into bed.”

I’m too surprised to do more than nod. And the sound of a bath sounds exquisite.

He swiftly turns and enters my bathroom. The water tap sounds, and cupboard doors open, and I wonder what he’s doing. Walking into my closet, I grab my sleepwear for tonight, then step into the bathroom. I find him whisking the soft pink water caused by a bath bomb.

“You didn’t have to,” I whisper, biting my lip.

His eyes flick to mine, and the way they look from the light in here makes the butterflies return.

“I want to,” he breathes.

My mouth drops open, and I’m too stunned to speak, so I step closer to take a look at the flecks of gold floating in the bath water. I won’t lie, it looks amazing, and when I’m chin deep in it, my muscles will appreciate him.

“Is it warm enough?” he asks.

I reach out and touch it. “Yes, it’s perfect.” I let my gaze trail over his strong body until I meet his blazing eyes, the twinge between my thighs returning.

I need him to go, but I want him to stay.

“Well, I think that’s enough water. I better go.” His deep voice causes my skin to prickle with goosebumps.

I hear the struggle he’s having in his voice. I’m glad it’s not just me feeling something between us. The way my body is reacting to him is unlike anything I’ve ever felt.

“Thanks for running the bath. I’m going to enjoy this.”

“Good,” is all he says back as he slips out of the room, leaving me alone.

I let out a sigh and undress, piling the clothes on the floor, and then step into the bath. A soft moan slips from the warmth hitting my skin, and as I sit lower and relax my head back, the water comes up to my neck. Minutes pass, and then…a knock sounds on the door.

“Come in,” I call out

“You look relaxed,” Alex murmurs, entering the bathroom again.

I inhale a sharp breath and stare at him. He’s holding a glass of wine. This sexy man is taking care of me again. I wish it was in other ways.

He pops a brow at me, as if reading my thoughts. His eyes darken with a wash of hunger.

The air crackles around us. “Is that for me?”

My question has his face softening. He looks at the glass and then meets my gaze.

“Yes. I thought you might enjoy a glass of wine in here.”

“Thank you,” I say, needing to calm the butterflies in my stomach.

“How’s the bath?”

I know this is my chance to be daring. Try to seduce him. I need to get him out of my system.

“Relaxing but I have these knots in my shoulders,” I say, rolling my shoulders.
