Page 120 of Doctor I Do

My stomach bottoms out, and I stand in a rush to move beside Tahlia. I want to be near her when we find this out. We’ve been waiting for this moment. I’ve guessed girl, and she has guessed boy.

I want another her.

A mini-Tahlia. Bringing me joy.

I hold her hand, caressing the soft skin in circles.

Her gaze stays fixed on the doctor, but mine is on her.

Her glassy eyes are already emotional as we wait for the results.

“Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Taylor, you’re having a girl.”

My smile nearly splits my face, and emotion hits me hard and fierce. I’ll admit, my eyes sting.

Tahlia’s lip quivers, and a tear slips down her cheek. “You were right,” she says to me through sniffs.

“Are you happy? I ask worried she’s disappointed she didn’t get a boy.

She nods rapidly. “Yes. I’m so happy. Are you?”

“Over the fucking moon. I have two queens to take care of now. My heart has never beat so fucking fast in its whole life.”

She smiles as more tears spill onto her cheeks. I remove my hand from hers and swipe away the tears with my thumbs before kissing her lips. “Are you ready to see our princess?”

A choke of a sob sounds out of her mouth as she says, “Yes.”

She lies back on the table, and the doctor preps her stomach with gel and scans Tahlia’s belly. The little baby girl comes onto the screen and a tear leaks from my eye. My world. These two beautiful women are mine. I’ll do whatever it takes to make sure they know how much I love them.

“Do we have a name?”

“Not yet,” I say in a shaky voice.

When he’s finished the scan, while he wipes the gel from Tahlia’s belly, I grab my phone and order something for her.

We move back to the chairs and discuss the next few weeks in detail. Dr. Paddock answers all Tahlia’s questions and once we’re done, he hands over forms for the upcoming scans and tests. Tahlia takes a detour to the bathroom, and I head to the reception desk to check out.

The receptionist hands me the box I had delivered for Tahlia. “This came for you.”

“Thank you,” I say, just as Tahlia enters the room.

Her eyes widen, and a grin transforms her face when she sees what I’m holding. “You didn’t.”

I smile. “I did.”

She walks closer and lifts the lid to peek inside the box. The same bakery box I brought the time she dropped Mike and Alice’s downstairs.

Cupcakes with pink icing. At least if she chooses to wear it, I’ll happily help clean it up. Right now, seeing her carrying my child makes me want to fill her with another baby. Why? I don’t know. But the thought and now seeing her pregnant is sending me feral.

“Get me home so we can enjoy these.” Her eyes are no longer glassy with tears. No. They are full of wickedness. My wife’s going to wear icing on her body, and I’m going to enjoy licking it off her. She’s mine, and I am hers. I never thought I could have feelings for a woman, but every day I spend with her, I’m certain I couldn’t switch them off. Tahlia fulfills me. My person.

Epilogue 1

Tahlia

Months later

I look out my new office window. The pool and city views as my backdrop are something out of a magazine. Alex wanted to move us into a bigger house, but there were too many good memories here that I wasn’t ready to part ways with.
