I climb off his lap, and he stands, adjusting his pants. I raise my brow at him. He’s actually going to just end it here.
He smacks my ass. “Don’t even think about it. You need to eat. I need you to have energy for later.”
Oh. Here I was thinking that was it, but he has plans for us, and tonight I want him to take control.
“Did you cook?” I ask, following him.
“Yeah, why’s that?”
“No reason,” I reply, watching him move around effortlessly in the kitchen.
I didn’t think he could cook.
“You cooked that?” I say, dumbfounded, as I stare at a large pastry crust pie.
“Yeah.” But the sly smile tells me something different.
Squinting at him, I read his too amused face. A smile escapes my lips, knowing he’s not telling me the whole truth. “You did not. You liar.”
His lip twitches. “I may have bought it and I put it in the oven.”
We laugh. It’s so easy being with him. I can’t wipe the smile off my face.
Chapter 29
Tahlia
Tonight, I’m getting ready for my bachelorette party. Alice is coming to pick me up soon. I told her nothing fancy, but she instructed me to wear white. I’ve chosen a white simple dress, and I’m finishing my hair, choosing a half-up, half-down look. And I kept my makeup simple.
The doorbell rings, and I open it. Alice stands there in a red midi dress, that compliments her bouncy brown hair and matching red lips.
“Alice, you look beautiful. I love the red,” I say, standing back and letting her pass me to get inside.
“And look at you. Happy Bachelorette!” she says, hugging me. When we disconnect, she thrusts a bag toward me.
“What’s this?” I ask, taking the bag with caution.
“Open it and find out,” she encourages.
I smile. Pulling out the tiara and sash, I can’t help but be happy she’s putting in so much effort. I could argue and say I don’t want it, but I’m not. I want this. Everything about this feels right. Just like my feelings toward him.
“Thanks, Alice, it's perfect,” I say sheepishly. Taking the tiara out first, I walk to the mirror. Staring at my reflection, I place the tiara on top of my head.
“I just need to put my shoes on, and I’m ready,” I say, turning around, where she smiles her approval.
I quickly head upstairs, and a couple of minutes later, I’m wearing my shoes and sash, and I’m in her car, heading to Maddison’s.
Walking the path up to my old house, I realize I don’t want to leave Alex’s. This feels like my old life, and I don’t want to go backward.
My new life is a fresh start.
Arriving inside, I walk into a party playing music. All my friends and family are dressed up, waiting for my arrival. The house is decorated with balloons, ribbons, and there’s even a life-size picture of Alex.
I’m handed a drink by Maddison, and as soon as I taste it, I recognize the drink as vodka, soda, and lime. But the straw is in the shape of a dick, and I can’t help but laugh. I seriously have the best friends ever.
Once we’ve all had a few drinks, we play one game where Alex had to answer a list of questions. If I got the answer right, they all had to take a sip of their drinks, but if I got it wrong, I did.
“All right, five-minute warning. Everyone pee, touch up, and get ready to party,” Blake announces to the room.
