“What if... it’s not all it’s cracked up to be.”
Nick planted both hands on either side of her hips and loomed over Gabby’s body, his face inches from Sky’s. “Darlin’, I’ve sampled. I’ve seen. I’ve touched. The goods are one hundred percent authentic and excellent.”
“My body.” She dropped her gaze. “It’s not the same as it was before.”
“Your body carried and gave birth to my daughter. I have even more reasons to worship it now than I did before.”
“You’re really good with your words.”
“I’m even better with my lips.” He closed the distance between them and kissed her. “And my hands.” He cupped her neck, trailing his fingers across her shoulders.
“Mm. Tell me more.”
“I’ve been told by a woman I had draped over my office desk, and up against a wall in a storage closet, that I’m pretty good with other parts of my body as well.”
“Seeing is believing,” she teased.
“Name the time and the place, and I’m there.”
Every night. Virginia. She wanted to say. Only, Virginia didn’t feel like home anymore. Maine did. Nick’s house did. Nick’s bed did. That wasn’t fair to her military base home though. No one ever felt truly at home until they retired from the military and settled down where they wanted.
Gabby had drifted back to sleep and pulled off of Skylar’s breast. Nick reached for her.
“I’ll put her back to bed.”
There was no way Skylar was falling asleep this time. As soon as Nick had left, she dashed into the bathroom, took care of business, then stumbled in the dark for the toothpaste making quick work of freshening up her breath. She spritzed on some of her body spray and rushed back into the bedroom.
Nick was already there, under the covers. If he was asleep she’d jump on him. The man could take a nap later. No, he couldn’t. He had to be at The Zone by ten. With great disappointment, she slid under the covers and scooted over to him, resting her head on his shoulder.
“I was worried you weren’t coming out.”
“I was worried you were asleep.” She propped herself up on her elbow. “And I wasn’t in there for very long.”
“It felt like an eternity.” He traced the outline of her face with his fingers, stopping at her chin. “Kiss me, Skylar.”
“Gladly.” She lowered herself to him, opening her mouth and kissing him with a year’s worth of pent up passion. Even though they’d shared dozens of steamy kisses, none had been with them nearly naked or in his bed.
Stradling one leg over his body, she laid down on top of him wanting every inch of her skin to feel his. “Your body is hot.”
“Darlin’. You’re the one with all the curves.” He slid his hands under the covers and cupped her butt cheeks.
Giggling, she said, “I mean temperature. Your skin is so warm.”
“Is it cheesy to say it’s because of you? That you heat me up?”
“Is it cheesy to say you do the same to me?”
Nick flipped them so she was on her back, and he hovered over her. “Skylar,” he said her name with such passion. Such fire. “I want you so desperately.”
“You’re kinda stealing all my lines here.”
“No more words then.” His kisses were tender, as was his touch as he lowered his hands to the hem of her shirt and skimmed up her sides. “Is it okay to... to touch your breasts?”
“Does it gross you out that they’re so big and full of milk?”
Nick lifted his head and raised a brow at her. “First, I’m a guy. Big boobs are never a problem. Second, you nursing our daughter is the most magical, wonderful thing I’ve ever witnessed.”
If there was any lingering doubt that she loved Nick, he’d just cemented it. Sliding her hands under the elastic of his boxers, she pushed them down, using her feet to flick them off. Then, without hesitation, she did the same to her shirt, and tossed it across the room.
